Re: 2 muggings at knife point in Silverdale
Makes one feel so confused as to why 3 police squad cars have to go to a Z list celeb (Jordan) when she worries autograph hunters are outside when they are more needed for real crimes.,(as in the news today).

Re: 2 muggings at knife point in Silverdale
This is so sad. I lived in Sydenham in the early 70's and as a young girl would often walk home down from Sydenham Station, alone at about 10 o'clock without fearing anyone, as I'd got a train home from an evening job in a West End Theatre. Never a moment's worry, no phone, no worry for parents ...

Re: Missing a nice bakery?
Slatters used to be wonderful!!! I used to work in Machins Bakers in the 70's down by KH Road, he baked on the premises and started at about 3 in the morning, there were queues up the high street every Saturday as well as the queues for Leslies the Butcher next door who has an auction on Sat ...

by g killick » 22 Mar 2010 23:03 Does anybody know anything about my Grandfather? I believe he was a General Dealer (Rag and Bone man) on Porthcawe Road in the late 1920's. I don't know his first name, but the surname was Killick. I would love to hear any stories anyone may have. PS The stories I ...

The Alfred
Went through Sydders on the bus the other day after a few years and noticed the Alfred boarded up...........about time too.
My personal opinion of course.
Wonder what will be built there. Something useful hopefully.

Re: Parking : What's the answer?
If you have a lovely front garden with nice planters and a small rockery and wonderful shrubs and a nice Flemish bond garden wall? Kiss it all goodbye by hiring a couple of skips and getting to work on building your very own off street parking bay. Knock your garden wall down and store the bricks ...

Medlars! There are quite a few wild trees and some in an orchard in High Elms Country Park (not far away in Farnborough). We always collect them each year

Any chance of there ever being summer carnivals and fetes in Home Park like in the 70's where a Carnival Queen was crowned and sat on a float? There was Morris Dancing, games, TV personalities, funfair rides, donkeys etc. It was organised by the COMMUNITY who lived there, where their children were ...

I worked in Wise's in the early 70's, during the 3 day week strikes and it was weird to be in a place lit up when everywhere else, including the streets, were dark. As it was a food supplier and people's power was off they were exempt from the cuts.
50p a night wages and bag of chips, very romantic!

I am so incensed by all this.............
It wold only take one or two of these children...............after all that's all they are CHILDREN for goodness sake, to have the balls to get out of the gang the are in, and realise what NORMAL life is like, without having to look over their shoulders all the time and just be a part of the ...

What is is with "gangs"???
Who are they? Why do they feel they are so important? Why do they feel they own the place when they don't even own the homes they live in? Are they all so incompetent in ordinary everyday life they feel the need to disrupt everyone and everything around them to gain attention? Do they all suffer ...

Very sad...once again and again and again
I remember Home Park as a lovely place in the 70's with summer fetes and carnivals.....a safe place where parents didn't have to go to the park with their children, we as youngsters took the youngest ones in the pram for the day. Such a shame this has happened, another young life needlessly snuffed ...

This is fascinating stuff!
I lived in Kneller Rd in Brockley in the 60's with the railway at the back and it's interesting to think the track was once the canal! I remember the wooden station building at Brockley, and station master etc before it burned down. I can still remember the sound of people's footsteps on the wooden ...
That's why I
am getting my chimney re-lined this year and having an open fire installed. We live near common woodland so it will be free wood (and anything else I can find), I often see people with wheelbarrows full so will be joining them. It also helps to air the house with a draught going. I learned how to ...
