Re: Armed Criminality in Sydenham - Again
It seems that branch is permanently closed now. So the Nat West is the only bank in Sydenham now. There has been a debate about financial exclusion recently, shutting down all the bank branches seems to going that way. Wonder what the building will become? Good location opposite the station. Banks ...

Re: Forest Hill Pools
Better do offer a 'swim only' monthly membership - around 30 quid from memory. Entitles to use any/all of their pools including the likes of the 2012 Olympics pool, Charlton lido (heated!) and, closer to home, Crystal Palace NSC (if the 50-metre pool there ever re-opens...).

Re: New Gym for Sydenham
That's good news. I think it was originally meant to open in June this year but Covid knocked that on the head. Had been worried it wasn't going to happen at all and the unit would remain empty, so pleased to hear Covid has just caused a delay rather than a cancellation.

Re: The 8pm NHS celebration
Over the successive weeks of the celebration, we have broken one saucepan lid (Ikea, not Lecreuset), two wooden spoons, then the remaining fragments of the wooden spoons when they were re-used the following week. Thankfully Amazon is still delivering wooden spoons!

Re: Kirkdale Costcutters
I'm assuming that the posters saying they don't see the point of a bra fitting service are men  (or should that be  ?) Bravissimo, who have a nation-wide business doing this, don't measure you either - they look at the size of the bra you come in wearing and its fit on you, to determine ...

Re: Earlesthorpe/Thorpes - schools help please!
The catchment distances should be available on the council's website. Adding two and two, I think I emailed you a whole load of info on schools via your vendor Welcome to the neighbourhood!

Girton Road car park - introduction of parking charges
Just noticed in the latest email from the Sydenham Society that Lewisham Council is planning to introduce parking charges for the Girton Road car park. If this is done without the corresponding introduction of a CPZ on the surrounding streets, the already extreme difficulties that residents face in ...

Re: Worst local transport journeys?
I guess the fact there are so many 'worst journeys' that have been offered up here only serves to demonstrate how well provided for we are when it comes to public transport

Re: School catchment areas
I guess it depends whether you are closer to the Sydenham or Penge end of those roads, but there are quite a few children from those roads at Kelvin Grove - with three-form entry it has quite a large catchment. Also, each year at least one or two local schools take a bulge class to accommodate ...

Re: High chairs in cafes
Raffaele's has high chairs and is very welcoming of children, but not sure if they're open at lunchtimes... Think the Golden Lion has high chairs too, as does the Dolphin. For all their unfriendly-sounding notices about children, the Dolphin were actually great when we took our two plus their baby ...

Local au pair networks?
We have a lovely Spanish au pair joining our family in a couple of weeks' time. Does anyone know of any local au pair networks - or just have an au pair themselves that we could introduce her to - that we can connect her with to help her settle in and make friends?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: Celebrating Brexit.
And a few facts on the EU's democratic deficit for the Brexiters while I'm at it. No, it's not perfect, but show me a political system that is. There are three political institutions in the EU - the Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers. The Commission: basically the civil ...

Re: Celebrating Brexit.
There is a great quote from a Telegraph article earlier this week: "There is no conceivable form of Brexit that will simultaneously avoid a UK recession, is acceptable to Leave voters, and be agreed by every one of the 27 EU nations in possession of a veto - there's just no way of making those ...

Re: Lidl shut
Sydenham Lidl reopened this morning, I am pleased to report. Slight reconfiguration of the entrance and exit area and a lick of paint as well as fixing the ceiling.
Lidl shut
Anyone know why Lidl on the high street has been shut for the last few days and when it's likely to re-open?

Re: Sydenham vs Forest Hill
You definitely get more square feet for your money in Sydenham than Forest Hill or Honor Oak Park. Also, there is a better range of good quality family housing within your five-minute station radius in Sydenham than in FH. I've not felt unsafe walking home from the station (or pub) in Sydenham, but ...
