At the risk of being drawn into this again.... I think it's good that the Dolphin is trying a different tack and attempting to make a business out of a gastropub in Sydenham. I hope it does well, I think it probably will. What's offensive to me is the attitude that is a pub for 'us' and 'them' can ...

True leaf, true, I get particularly annoyed at people who think that they have more of a right to comment and/or shout down because they're either a) more intelligent or more commonly b) think they're more intelligent. Last time I checked we lived in a democracy where everyone has a say, not just ...

Fair comment castiron, I think I'd like something radical too. I'm not sure the Copenhagen model would work here (I'd be worried for the ginger Tom in the picture...), but some of the Kensington pictures look distinctly half-baked, as though there was insufficient courage to follow through with ...

I appreciate your point about the narrowing of footpaths, but I think complaining of making the street look untidy is a rather petty complaint. I'm pleased that Sydenham high street still has a lot of independent retailers on it and it's broadly these, struggling to survive I expect, that tend to ...

It always reminds me of the Amityville Horror house - it'd be such a shame for it to be sanitised. I hope someone with a sense of fun buys it and plays up to it's character. It's reminded me of this I read about a novel halloween display. http://laughingsquid.com/2006/10/28/plane-crash-halloween ...

I imagined that you'd have explored that particular avenue, but mentioned it just in case.

That kind of imagary can give you a clue about where old boundary walls, footpaths and earthworks not visible from ground level are, but I know it's not a replacement for proper 'footwork'.

Falkor,

Do you use Google Earth at all? That can give you a fantastic aerial view of areas you are interested in. The resolution of the satellite photos is down to less than a metre and so might help give clues to what lies beneath the surface.
