Maps
I have a print of the large scale Ordnance Survey map of the mid 1860s and notice that the individual field plots are numbered and would like to know if there is an index to these numbers and what information any index shows for each plot.

Re: Lost buildings of Lewisham

He was born in Bermondsey on 14 June 1824 the son of Simeon, a Wool Stapler and Elizabeth his wife. He was baptized at St Mary Magdalene church in Bermondsey ...

Re: Old Wells Park
Somebody here asked why Kelvin Grove is so called. While I suppose no one can be absolutely certain, how about this. Re: Acacia/Hazel Grove/Paxton Park
I've looked at the two pictures that Steve Grindlay has posted as being of Paxton Park. One of the pictures would seem to be a picture of the left hand side of LAUREL GROVE, that is of Numbers 1 to 25. Numbers 7 - 11 were built about 1900 and are shown in the 1901 census (31 March) as being ...

Re: Street/Area names
Hanover Street was, at first, the turning out of Wells (Park) Road and ran only to the owner's land boundary and presumably was named after the ruling dynasty at the time of its creation (Queen Victoria-House of Hanover). This must have been sometime after 1843 as it is not shown on the Tithe map of ...

Re: Sydenham Hill Estate, Springfield Rise etc
Somebody on this site asked for a picture of "Greyfriars" in Wells (Park) Road. I took a picture of this property from outside the entrance gates in about 1969. Any interest? I do not know how to upload copies of scanned photographs on to this site but will e-mail a copy if anyone is interested. I ...
