Another cryptic photo post from Tim. Please elaborate. I see something that looks like a pond, and some things that look a bit like pipes under the water. Other than that, I have no idea what I'm looking at. I do remember a while back you were exhorted to make your posts more succinct - you've gone too far the other way.

Later - okay, I've put my specs on. It makes more sense now.

An explanation in the local rag, but none for why they can't even spell 'drought'.

I think it's Tim's vegetable patch? where he grew rhubarb? The fact we are currently observing a hosepipe ban yet Tim's garden/allotment/land has turned in to a new reservoir.

I would imagine you'd be able to pump the water out, bottle it and sell it at a profit to other gardeners/growers.

Nearly. It's my newly tidied up strawberry bed. What you can see under the water, however, are not runners, but the binder twine I used for marking out the rows.

Yummy, strawberries,
Do they grow ok? do you suffer with pests? (not just here) :)

Has anyone seen how full the reservoirs are. This is the salient point.

I know the ground water levels are still low. We have a small stream that runs underground towards the back of our garden. After a few weeks of rain it usually comes to the surface. No sign of it yet.

I believe the Met Office are declaring this the wettest drought on record.

My allotment neighbours emailed me yesterday
on visiting the site today we noticed that your plot is totally dry and thank you for transferring the water to our plot which is now like a paddy field and we thinking of sowing some rice, maybe you could give us a hand.
With last night's downpour, the water may be back - I'll be checking this morning. Meanwhile, why not make a note in your diaries for May 20th, which is our regular Spring Open Day.

BTW, I'm not sure if this is just surface run off or a spring. About a foot down you get to London clay, so I suspect it's a sort of sub soil run-off - so some of the water will seep - fairly fast - through the topsoil and flood in the way shown, while other water will be being absorbed - more slowly - into deeper ground water. A friend from Uni has spent his career working on mathematical models of underground fluid flow - it's a complex area.

my back garden/vegetable plot was in a similar situation on Sunday - probably due to the soil type, and the fact that we had a months rain in one day, it just couldn't all drain away quick enough.

I hope that my potatoes that I planted there don't rot.
