a New Historical Walk through Sydenham Woods proposed
a New Historical Walk through Sydenham Woods proposed
Due to the success of Steve Grindlay last talk, many people who missed it have voiced an interest in partaking of another.
ISteve will retrace his original talk on Saturday 9th June. Meet at 11am by the Crescent Wood Entrance. I hope to get Steve Grindlay to come along also.
Watch this space and also post if you would like to attend, so we can get an idea of numbers

I'd be really interested in going, that's a wide scope of dates though, I'm pressuring it'll be a weekend. That will be good. Have you other interested people? Is it advertised elsewhere too, perhaps the Sydenham society may have some interested people and with all the Mary portals action maybe that will generate more interest and a place to advertise.

Hi. I'm very interested! Pretty much all of those dates work for me - I'm just trying to get hold of my other half's shift pattern - I'll perhaps suggest some dates then? We could maybe set up a poll on here?
Re: a New Historical Walk through Sydenham Woods proposed
Right - how about one of these:
Weekend of 9/10 June;
Weekend of 16/17 June; or
Weekend of 30 June/1 July?
Perhaps those who are interested in coming could post on here so we have an idea of numbers/ level of interest. It would be great to get a good group of us to make best use of Steve's time!

Sorry Juliet, but no-one - (apart from yourself) and baglady has responded to me.
This leaves two options ATM.
1) I can approach Steve Grindlay to see if he would like to take a very small group around the woods again
2) I can do the walk with yourself and anyone else. I have all the notes and the knowledge (no disrespect to Steve) and I think I could do a comparable job.
Please let me know. It was an excellent 2 hours well-spent with Steve, and as I am moving soon, I would like to pass on the knowledge

I am also very interested, so that makes 3 responses. I won't be able make the weekend of 16/17 June, so either of the other two would be fine. Also I'd prefer Ali as guide, seeing as how this is our last chance to do so.

I spoke to Steve Grindlay yesterday and he is very happy to do another walk.
Me and my wife will also be in attendance

I'm bringing 6 people so far - will update if more sign up.
Re: a New Historical Walk through Sydenham Woods proposed
Fantastic effort Juliet. Numbers are important because Steve would like to know how many information sheets to bring (although i can email this to anyone) and also whether to bring a megaphone if numbers swell, to say 50.
If you wish to discuss some aspects after the walk with Steve, I'm sure he would willingly chat over a pint in the Dulwich Woodhouse afterwards. I think me and the missus will be heading there after the walk, just to meet a few STF'ers.

I'd be very interested in coming along, and am free on all the dates proposed. I used to be a volunteer in the woods and got to know it quite well, so to put a good historical knowledge to it will enhance all my future walks in the woods, and pass on the history to my kids as they grow.

It's saturday 9th June , 11am at Crescent Wood Entrance.

Fantastic.
The budget time-length of the walk is between 1 and 2 hours. I would think Steve would have set aside up to an hour or so to answer questions at the end, either in the Woods, or possibly at the Dulwich Woodhouse.
That's around 13 people so far, and room for plenty more

Add myself and maybe one or both of my children
Re: a New Historical Walk through Sydenham Woods proposed
Excellent. Can I also add that I spoke with Ashley White of London Wildlife yesterday, and she is interested in coming along, and perhaps answering questions on the natural history of the woods.
I am in the process of seeing if this is OK with Steve Grindlay, but it gives an excellent opportunity of covering a whole raft of subjects.
