Community garden hit by burglars

Grow Mayow community garden in Mayow park got hit by thieves over the weekend.
The garden shed, the trailer forced open ,the RSPB box emptied also all the donation boxes raided.
Luckly not much cash has been taken.
They try to force the office door and tool sheds with a table leg with metal bit on the end, this must have been used to break in,as we found it near the forced office door.

Luckly no plants or other things where stolen. They where obviously just after money,but still scary to think what the might do next time.Steel our plants, tools or damage the site.
There was no sign when trying to contact the park keeper,as we hardly see the park keeper these days anyway.
Must admit that the previous park keeper was very allert,what happend to him?

Such a shame, because when they steal from the garden they are really stealing from the community.

Community Police ? I didn't bother to be honest. They always arrive at the scene 6 weeks later,and when seeing them they don't seem to be impressed! Sorry community police!

Unless I found a gun on site !

you shouldn't be contacting the SNT direct for a burglary: ring the "proper" police (i.e. the main control) on 0300 123 12 12. Lewisham (or maybe Met Wide?) policy is that you should have an officer attend within 4 hours.

It is important that such things are reported for a variety of reasons:

1. so that the culprits may be caught - there might be evidence there that links people to the offence (you mention a table leg used - there could be DNA/fingerpring evidence etc, they burgled a garden - were there footprints? etc.)

2. even if they are not caught through evidence at the scene patterns of offending and similar MOs can build up a picture of offending in an area that can help track offenders.

3. Finding patterns as above can help focus patrols and initiatives that can help prevent and disrupt future offences.


So yes, it is very important to report stuff like this.

yes, of course you can't burgle a garden in itself..... this was a burglary though as a shed was broken into.

(a burglary has to involve a building)

We all need to be vigilant. Some people will break in anywhere on the off-chance they will find something worth stealing. The week before the community garden break-in one of the cafe's in Sydenham Road was broken into and trashed (nothing much was taken as they, like most shops, don't leave cash there overnight) and the same night one of the charity shops a few doors away from the cafe was also broken into. How low can you get, breaking into a charity shop?

How can a Park Keeper look after a park when he's wearing an iPod and blind to his environment? Dogs fighting and yet no intervention.

Complain if you're not happy with a public service and get others to join you.
