Hitherwood or the International Guest House

I've been talking with my mother who lived in a large house called Hitherwood in about 1951 when it was some sort of family hostel for people down on their luck. I have found that it had been at one time the International Guest House run by the Holiday Fellowship, and I have found a variety of postcard views of it here on this site.

I wonder if anyone has more information about the property in the post-war period. Especially during the late Forties and early Fifties. Who was running it at this time? When did it close?
