Sydenham Road Traffic Light phasing

Post by mummycat »

Has anyone else noticed that the traffic light phasing has been changed on Sydenham Road, at the juntion of Newlands Park?

If you're driving downhill from Cobbs corner, the right filter arrow now doesn't show. Usually when the filter arrow shows, the green man lights up to let you cross the second part of the crossing, by Aldlife/Selims Kebabs. This isn't happening. The amount of traffic coming down between Cobbs Corner and the Post Office has now doubled before the lights turn red outside Snappy Snaps.

It's now taking us twice as long to cross the road!

Does anyone know what's happening? Is it something to do with the roadworks?

Please let me know who to contact to sort this out - we're now resorting to crossing at the zebra on the railway bridge. :x

You have hit on a truly terrible crossing . Also should be lights for pedestrians to cross Newlands Park.

I like your knowledge of all the new emporiums . I tend to remember the old retailers of the 1950's

That's why I (and most other pedestrians/cyclists?) prefer zebra crossings. The road planning control freaks prefer high maintenence and environmentally unfriendly controlled crossings. Shame we always get ignored.

Yes there is certainly something wrong with that pedestrian crossing. I will try to get in touch with the council tomorrow as it needs to be fixed. :?

I've been told it's a TFL responsibilty. I've reported the fault online:

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/roadusers/rep ... fault.aspx

The more people do so, hopefully the sonner it will be fixed. I've seen older children risking their lives crossing between traffic, as clearly the pedestrians don't get a chance to cross, now.

Are you kidding?

At least a pelican crossing or a junction with pedestrian signals gives the poor pedestrian a chance to cross whilst traffic is stopped by a red light, with the added threat of cameras being placed there to enforce those red lights at particularly accident-prone junctions.

Car drivers, and to an even greater extent, cyclists, completely ignore zebra crossings as and when they feel like it, or move off before pedestrians have finished crossing.

I'd take a pelican crossing over a zebra crossing any day.

i've reported the fault too, but as far as i can tell it's still not working. i'm guessing someone has to get knocked down before anything is done...
