Has anyone noticed how much the gas pressure varies?

I have been meaning to post this puzzling question for several weeks now, but have only just remembered to:
We have found that usually, when you light a gas jet on our hob, the pressure is quite low, often you need to move a pan onto a more powerful jet. then - randomly after say 10 minutes, all the jets come on to full pressure for a while, before fading back down again. Often to a level so low that the flame goes out.
What is going on? This never used to happen. Anyone got any ideas?

FYI I experienced something very similar a few times last week. I was concerned it was my hobs but then they would come back on full blast without me touching a thing.

I wonder if everyone firing up their central heating systems is causing a supply issue or something?

A potentially very dangerous scenario since the hob could release unburnt gas. Call 0800 111 999 it's a free service. They will check the supply pressures and operate 24 Hrs.

Does it occur when the boiler is operated? Often undersized gas pipework within the property and a combi boiler will give these symptoms. At this time of year with the street pressure lower (and the pipework sometimes full of water) the results are as you describe.

Probably just a broken governor on the meter or water in the main.
