Mugging on Westwood Hill - 28 November 08

Post by Joanna »

On Friday, 28 November at 11.45pm, a young woman walking alone on Westwood Hill by St Barts Church, was mugged. The mugger pushed her to the ground, took her handbag and ran into the church grounds where he had left his push bike. The mugger then cycled down Westwood Hill into Lawrie Park Road.

It would appear the youth was waiting under the archway to the Church for a lone female with a bag.

Please, please if women have to walk home at night, keep your keys, purse and mobile in your pocket.

I was sorry to hear about this. However, would it be possible to verify these details? I'm not doubting that this event took place but just to be clear, was this attack witnessed by you, or someone you know, or did it come from some other source?

The attack was witnessed by myself, 2 other people and the person it happened to.

I have posted this incident on here, to alert as many people as possible, as it could happen again.

Thanks for this Joanna. I was asked if I had a light by a guy who looked like he was up to no good in exactly the same place as you described but nothing came of it. I hope the young lady makes a full recovery. Keep an eye out Sydenham.

Unfortunately the street lighing right outside the church (where cross over is in the road) does not always work. For the last month or so 25% of the time the light has not been on making it extremely dark there.

Lewisham Council (street lighting) have been advised
