The Sladden Family in Edwardian Sydenham

Post by Charleville »

I’ve just completed a new study of 12 Charleville Circus, focusing on the Sladden family members who lived there between 1910 and 1917. Before moving to Charleville Circus, they had previously resided at West Hill and Peak Hill, Sydenham.

The Sladdens consisted of four brothers and a sister, children of Sir Julius Sladden, originally from Worcestershire.

A transcript of a fascinating letter provides a detailed description of their house.

In 1914, three of the brothers served as officers during the First World War, and all survived the conflict.
