Janet Daby MP for East Lewisham Visit to Sydenham 11 July

Post by Local SE26 »

Janet Daby MP Lewisham East.

On Thursday 11 July

At The Sydenham Centre, 44a Sydenham Rd, SE26 5QX 8pm

Janet will speak on:

Youth violence - We need to tackle the roots of these appalling incidents.
• Massive cuts in Youth Services since 2010 under Conservative and Liberal Democrat/ Tory coalition governments' austerity policies has meant much less support for young people.
• There needs to be huge investment in specialist services to end the tragedies from knife crime.

Stop and search - As Labour MP David Lammy has said - all evidence shows it is not an effective way of dealing with drug crime.
• The policy is unfairly targeting black youth.
• Prominent Tory politicians have admitted taking cocaine but there's no targeting of wealthy drug users by police. No stop and search for them.

Windrush scandal - British citizens have been treated disgracefully as a consequence of Theresa May's racist 'hostile environment' policy. It affected thousands of people:
• Some lost their jobs and were made homeless, some after living here for 50 years.
• Individuals denied cancer treatment.
• People denied legal rights and access to justice.

Do you think she will speak on moves to deselect Ellie Reeves?

This would appear to be a serious breach of the rules MPs operate under. Unless the sitting MP has been invited then I am pretty sure it is.

I am not sure which rule has been breached. Labour Party organises quite a few discussion points where it would invite MPs from other areas and distinguished speakers to talk about their area of interest. In recent years I remember seeing Margaret Hodge, Rachel Reeves and Stella Creasy all come to our area and discuss topics close to their special work as MPs.
