"RARE" Lantern Slides of the Crystal Palace 1911

Anyone seen enough pictures of the Crystal Palace yet?



I have taken the liberty of flipping these over.

I own an "original copy" of the top left slide, mine is #60, a number not included in the listing, so these must have been available commercially, perhaps twice.



"A set of seven original photgraphic slides from the Festival Of Empire in 1911 at the Crystal Palace. The festival was to celebrate the coronation of George V.

Flying machines.
Edystone Railway.

The Watershoot.
Great Pleasure Lake.

Ballymaclinton the Irish Village.

"they are numbered 1,7, 8, 10, 11, 12 and 14."

Thought this map might help, where was the Ballymaclinton Village?

It can't be too far from the central fountain basin (converted into a bandstand for the Festival Of Empire).

Well, it's labelled as from the Elizabethan Vestibule in the Crystal Palace Museum. I think it's the best thing in the place.

I don't know why it took them so long to renew the display. It's much more informative, but it lacks colour or a bit of synthesis, it doesn't have to all be primary material does it? And so many of the pictures are so small.

I am working on some drawings for the "walk in the nave" thread including the first floor. Very similar to your work on the Croydon Canal, I seem to be in the zeitgeist for once!

The other item is a piece of the Crystal Palace Company's own china service. There used to be piles of this in the late 70's early 80's, by what are now the steps by the museum. So much was removed that it undermined the huts erected there. I used to have loads as well as soda bottles with "Crystal Palace" on the side, until they were thrown away as "junk" in 2004!
