WOODMAN KIRKDALE NOW OPEN
The Woodman is now under new ownership. Whilst it retains the character and atmosphere of the traditional local pub, it places emphasis on a more lively environment for a wider variety of local people. The Woodman creates an ideal setting for an impromptu pint or an evening of celebration. Food from the New Year.

Thumbs up!
My husband went there with two friends last night, and said it is great. Apparently it's been opened up a lot (it was split into a lot of small compartments before, from what we can remember), so now it's much more open plan. TV's gone, new bar, nice wooden floor, leather sofas etc etc. All new decor, it seems. Nice atmosphere. And food in the new year... I can't wait!
Hello All (first post here)!
I've been into The Woodman twice since it re-opened, and I think they've made a good effort with it - sofa area at the back where the pool table used to be, sticky carpet replaced with refurbed wood flooring, candles on tables etc. Wine list looks alright and fairly priced, and there's a decent mix of drinks on tap. Music was a bit hit and miss the first time I went, but good for the short time I was there yesterday. Staff are firendly too!
Will be interested to see what they put on the food menu when they introduce it.

Mr Savvy and I went in early for the first time last night and the bar staff were very friendly and professional. It was empty though - we were the only people in there till we left at 8.30! The fire is great, its a real one too - not a faux gas affair. I think we'll be making this a regular stop on the way home from work, especially once they start serving food, we left because we were starving - a bowl of chips would have gone down a treat.
I do know what the previous poster means about the music though - it was loud grunge the whole time. The barman must have brought it from home - he sang along to every song. Nice chap though!

Perfect, nothing wrong with that! It's got to be better that the r'n'b crap or ambient (or whatever the hell that stuff that sends me into a coma is called) stuff you usually get. If I had my way it'd be Motorhead and Sex Pistols.Savvy wrote:I do know what the previous poster means about the music though - it was loud grunge the whole time.
it pisses me off when you go into a pub and the music's so loud you can't hear conversation...no matter if it's the latest rubbish squeezed out of a 'new age pop' producer's anus, or motorhead's no sleep till hammersmith.
i hope the woodman doesn't have it up too loud, and i hope they don't get shirty when i ask them to turn it down if it is.
it looks like a good pub from the outside.
*fingers crossed*
