In a separate thread, Sydenham Boy asks – “What’s next?” after the successful start the Blue Mountain Café has made in SE26.
As you may know, Zuckers is about to be reincarnated – this time under the name “Sugar Hill” – so we’ll soon have a hill and a mountain in close proximity to one another at Cobb’s Corner!
A final planning application for the proposed bar and flats on the site of the two “huts” by the bridge (formerly a barber and a dry cleaners) should be approved by the council imminently. The owner tells us he wants to start building work immediately.
And in Station Approach, an application to turn the former taxi cab office (Number 6, Station Approach) into a deli and café has just been put before the council.
I agree with Sydenham Boy’s view in an earlier posting that there is clearly a huge pent-up demand for places such as the Blue Mountain and The Dolphin with the result that our high street will hopefully start to have a much greater diversity of businesses than at present.
It’s all happening mate!

In the interest of accuracy, "Zuckers" will re-open as "Sugahill". During the course of refurbishment a wall has been removed and the interior is larger than previously.
Mr Arch (an ST poster) has told the Sydenham Society that he (Chris) and Yasemin look forward to welcoming customers coming to sample their selection of teas, coffee and juices, freshly made sandwiches and panini, homemade soups and pastries in a contemporary relaxed atmosphere. Eat-in or takeaway, their café will be open from 7.30 am–7 pm.
With Blue Mountain, Sugahill and a new pub/wine bar and with Kirkdale Bookshop and the great D-I-Y shop the area around Cobbs Corner is looking up. All we need to do now is resolve the vexatious problem of the Greyhound.
And before anyone asks the question - the answer is, no, we have heard nothing about what Milfords are planning to do next.
