It's great when you discover a real gem of a restaurant. And El Morino, between Penge and Beckenham, just before the tram stop, is certainly that. It doesn't look much from the outside, but inside, with all the dark wood, football shirts hanging above the bar, and pictures on the walls, it's like being in an old style restaurant in Spain.
The food here is from Gallicia. We shared five tapas, including chirizo and oyster mushrooms, patatas alioli, and baby green peppers fried in olive oil. Each dish was absolutely outstanding. I was tempted to order a seafood tapas, but I was too full.
The owner told me he's been here for 23 years and has created all the recipes.
We'll be going back often.
