SE London’s Biggest Arts & Culture Spectacular

There are only two days until the sixth annual Sydenham Arts Festival, which runs for 16 days and features some of the best in music, theatre, comedy and spoken word. There are more than 60 events, many of them free.

Immerse yourself in poetry at the Hegley & Kay double bill on Saturday 12 July. John Hegley - poet, comic and songwriter - launches his latest book alongside Forward Prize winner and Scottish poet Jackie Kay, (“One of the liveliest talents of her generation” The Sunday Telegraph).

Hear the magical tale of the Grateful and the Dead, told by international story-teller Ben Haggarty (“I was spellbound and I don’t use the term lightly” - The Times), who will be joined by other talented storytellers on Tuesday 15 July and hear cutting edge contemporary work at the Fiesta of Poetry, which features acclaimed British-Sri Lankan poet Jasmine Cooray and Crystal Palace poet and Forward Prize nominee Matthew Caley on Saturday 12 July.

Younger festival-goers can join renowned children’s author Jeremy Strong (Hundred-Mile-an-Hour-Dog) on Saturday 12 July where he will reveal where his amazing ideas come from and they can meet different characters with some outdoor theatre in the secluded Albion Millenium Green with The Bedlam Bunch Interactive Adventures on various days 7-11 July. (NB This show replaces Romeo & Juliet, as advertised in the festival brochure.)

Children can explore the delights of classical music at Toy Symphony workshop and concert on Saturday 19 July and learn how to become a superhero on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 July at The International Superhero Academy.

Our launch event Street Celebration (Saturday 5 July) and closing event Arts in the Park: Family Fun Day (Sunday 20 July) also have lots of activities and entertainment for children.
