fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
you know in Wells Park Road, when they first put the telephone box on the corner of Dallas Road, people said there would be problems. When they opened the chicken shop, people said tere would be problems. When they built the youth centre, people said there would be problems. All on Sydenham forum at some stage.
Now the problem has come true with the unfortunate death of "James"
There are always a group of youths outside of the spar and chicken shop, sometimes quite intimidating and making it difficult to enter the shop, but who cares the spar owners are afraid to say anything in case the people on the doorstep come in smashing things up and on the rob.
We need more police prescence on the scene. Ther is like a vigil at the moment flowers loud rap music, a lady giving out cake to the ever present group of youths sitting on the railings next to the murder scene.
At the end of the day will this incite more gang problems?
I sincerley hope not

Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
Just to add I have bought my children up in this area for the past 30 years or more, everybody knew everybody, but now everyone wears a "Hoodie" so are more or less incognito.Hoodies should be banned around this area and make it easier to identify people!!!!
Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
Lewisham council just simply do not care and allow the likes of the chicken shop to open... We all knew it would cause the scum to congregate in that area, Spark should've been shut years ago when standards slipped and it lost it's branding from Spar.
It's inner London, the majority of the youths in this area are not savoury characters, maybe Lewisham are just letting these people have what they want. Chicken shops. Same can be said for most of Sydenham really... Like having those payday loan places, it's most likely the reality of Sydenham and it is something that is very different to the calibre of people on this forum who too live in Sydenham but are a likely minority.

Multiisync.
Ban hoodies . You do not realise what a hornets nest you will have stoked. I got abused for wanting to ban full face coverings, hoodies are only partial covering.
The Liberal minority in Sydenham will be down on you like a ton of bricks.
I agree you have a point.
What is all the excitement about poultry shops. Why do not some of the GOOD people who frequent them have a few chickens themselves and eat the lovely eggs.

Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
What pish. Youths aren't stabbing each other to death because of an item of clothing.multisync wrote:Just to add I have bought my children up in this area for the past 30 years or more, everybody knew everybody, but now everyone wears a "Hoodie" so are more or less incognito.Hoodies should be banned around this area and make it easier to identify people!!!!
Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
But it is more or less those wearing these items of clothing (hoodies) that are stabbing each other. Not those wearing suits walking out of Sydenham station at 6pm who've done an honest days hard work.hairybuddha wrote:What pish. Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
I think you are confusing correlation with causality.
Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
I think this is very unfair on the majority of young people, who are polite and get on with their own business without causing any harm to anybody. That's not to say that there are not individuals or groups who cause problems, but the vast majority of young people in the area and decent people.parker wrote:It's inner London, the majority of the youths in this area are not savoury characters, maybe Lewisham are just letting these people have what they want. This stabbing was an isolated incident, not everyday behaviour in the area, and I praise NawhalPA's sensible posting upthread: http://sydenham.org.uk/forum/memberlist ... ile&u=5649

No but they hide under these hoods even the victim in the photo had a hoodie on.

Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
So you're saying he wouldn't have been stabbed to death if his assailants had been wearing crew neck T-shirts and beanie hats instead?
I'm sure you mean well but you're miles off target here.

Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
I'd say there's a lot more going on than people think Michael, Wells Park is a pretty deprivated 'no-go' area... I'd imagine drugs, guns as well as knives are rife in the area... A lot would be uncovered at the Sydenham Hill estate if spot-check raids on properties in the area were allowed... It's not a nice place and it's the people living there who make it that way.michael wrote:This stabbing was an isolated incident, not everyday behaviour in the area
The lack of police roaming the area is not helping prevent the prevalence of these incidents... Last year there was a shooting too. Even one incident like what has just happened is once too often where people's children are involved.

Good luck, you have probably upset the liberal luvvies on here, get ready for the onslaught!
Me personally? I agree with you.
Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
And yet Sydenham is boringly average for levels of violent crime against the person: http://maps.met.police.uk/index.php?are ... imetype=13
Maybe we need to keep a little perspective here? We live in a big city with enormous levels of wealth and deprivation. There has always been and will always be drugs, guns and knives in our midst.

If people allow it, where are the parents? Once again they get away with how/what their children are doing outside the home.
No young person should have to fear for their lives, it's disgusting that society "allows" it to happen, where is the respect for life, and don't give me all the old shite about deprived kids! Not with all the opportunities / luvvies falling over themselves to "feel" their pain! Get real, get an education, get a job, and contribute to society, stop making excuses, we had things a lot worse when I was a teen, but I didn't have the slightest inclination to go around stabbing or harming anyone.
I'm fed up with all the crap that is spouted about these "poor" youths!

Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
Poor parenting is definitely one of the issues here. Any suggestions for improving thnigs besides banning hoodies and having police cordons around chicken shops?
Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
Look at the crowd around the crime scene HOW MANY HAVE HOODIES??

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED MY POST ABOUT CORRELATION AND CAUSALITY YET?multisync wrote:Look at the crowd around the crime scene HOW MANY HAVE HOODIES??
And is your keyboard malfunctioning somehow?
Re: fatal stabbing in Wells Park Road.
It starts in the home, make parents responsible, yes there will be some who slip the net, but people are not born evil, they can become evil by the influences around them, take away the bad influence and things could improve.hairybuddha wrote:Poor parenting is definitely one of the issues here. Education is one of the keys to a better life, everyone has a responsibility to themselves, far to easy to blame everyone else, bring back respect for yourself and respect for each other.
Phase 1, but it's a start.
