Wow, these are incredible.

Have you seen this, possibly the saddest video ever.

This is Cawnpore Street

2 The parade with extension post 1866, now a bus garage.

3 South Nave, who is that man who's lost the roll of lino?

4 Screen of Kings and Queens, by Photochrom

5 South Nave again.

6. Monti's Fountain, looking south.

7. Higher up view.

8. South Nave AGAIN. Roubilliac's Shakespeare behind a bush.

8. Aboo simbel. Love the sundials, this is the first in the second edition of 20 stereoviews by the Crystal PAlace Art Union, reissued on the yellow mountes of the 1860-70's, which was why I bought it!

9. Fire of 1866 in the North Transept from the parade, you can see that the figures were not solid, but a sectional cast held from the brick core by struts.

10. South Nave AGAIN, tip of Queen Victoria by Marochetti, in Scotland now, just poking bottom left.

11. Blondin. I have a scan of a stereoview of this from a short-lived website on exhibitions, the rope comes up to meet you. Bought by 1924lineone from ebay.

12 Sculpture gallery by Negretti & Zambra.

13. Italian Court Wikipedia Commons

14. Pirate copy of Renaissance Court.

15. Now this I haven't seen before. Love a bit of dereliction, the South wing presumably? Magasibe article?

16. Queen arriving at Opening Ceremony, original porch, very much of the mid-victorian style.

16. Last gasp of the fire at the North Nave.

I have another one, but CAN I find it?

17. I think they are actually red glass candle holders, they go for a bomb on ebay.

18 Wonder where that one comes from?

19 Lambeth, more candle holders.

20. Ditto.

21 Festival of Empire, Kinge George and Queen Maryon the new steps, rushing to the Joy Wheel no doubt!

22. Haven't seen that one before.

23. Monti's Zollverein.

24. There were huge bottle dumps, and broken crockery under those sheds, probably why they had to demolish them. What I collected as a kid was thrown out as junk only a few years ago, bottles with Crystal Palace on them, and bits of the Crystal Palace Company plates.

25 Very nice, a reckon these were by Monti.

26. Andromeda before her head was used as a football.

27. Must be before the 1957 sale.

28 the start of raising the surface of the lower terrace, interesting the see the north transept steps still there.

29 No comment.

30 The Rosary

31 AN OXO card.

32 Festival of Empire 1911

33 Ditto As sold by the Norwood Society

34 They did a whole series on London

35 Bought my copy from Las Vegas, you can see the monkey houses by Tower Bridge.

36 Ditto

37 More examples of mirroring/reversing.

Image

Rosary in the right place now.

38.

Fantastic, thanks

Interesting that that map shows a railway entrance, would this be the elusive tunnel?

Fantastic pics I`m going to download them onto cd.
I'm really sorry that I never thought to collect any of this sort of stuff years ago, I had no idea what was about, the biggest trophy back then seemed to be lumps of molten glass. No one was interested;all you heard was stories of how far away you could see the flames.

Thanks to Falkor and THT for posting the pictures. I appreciate you have an edgy competitiveness between the two of you, but STF ultimately gains.

The input from both of you is extraordinary, please keep them pictures coming

However, it does make me very sad to see what Sydenham lost in the big fire (not the electricity substation 2 years ago, but the crystal palace fire)

I'm not sure this is the same one that you posted, I couldn't make it work, but this clip is fascinating, and so so sad.

The above clip, posted on youtube by Falkor, comes from the "Phoenix Tower" 1957 and availiable as part of a double bill with "The Pleasure Garden" also 1957, now on a DVD by the BFI.
