Welcome and good luck Rob! Was just thinking yesterday that it was a shame so many units were closed in that area. Will be good to see it in use :)

Welcome Rod...i don't have any tattoos and have no desire to have one, however i do understand and respect the allure. You sound like a great new addition. :)

hi Rob
let me add my welcome to the others on here - and thanks for the mention of Sydenham Arts Festival, which we're busy planning right now. I'll try to pop by your shop to see about how we can link up

And just to add that it's great to see another empty property reopen with a new business. Good luck!

Congratulations rob. The place looks real smart - particularly enjoying the signage and windows.
Assume be nicer/easier to do a life-drawing class with a local artist leading the way but one if my mates recently opened a online life drawing class etc and cosistently goes to them and wonder if come a little while and this plan comes into action I could ask if he may fancy leading it.
Just shout anytime if would like me to contact him/pass on his details.

Secondly, along the same sorts of lines ive got a few arty mates who go to classes/events and "drink and draw"/"drink and doodle" things seem to be a pretty popular thing. Obviously no idea how this may fit into your personal/business preferences or licensing rules for one off/monthly events but again just an idea with someone like "late knights" brewery (see the microbrewery post) providing the booze.

Good luck with everything and looking forward to hearing developments,

Jon

I don't like the look of it... Doesn't look anything like a gallery. Don't think we did anything like it in Sydenham... Can go Camden for that if I thought it was necessary to get inked...

I think its great to see the unit taken up, I hope it encourages other business to open up there.

Personally I wouldn't want to get a tattoo but I am amazed at peoples commitment to the art sometimes, take a look....

@JMLF I'll definitely take that into consideration and Message you when the time comes, nice one for that, @sugarhillcafe than again for all the support

@Parker I didn't know the king of art galleries died and made you his successor.....look nobody says you have to like the my studio I'm not asking you to be my friend, but a well run business can bring business to other businesses, for example some comes to my shop to get a tattoo but they're friend (which most people come with) is hungry they go over to distill for something to eat, they're bored they go for a stroll down the high street, I could go on but I think you get the drift.

Fact of the matter is this is SYDENHAM not dulwich and what makes sydenham better than dulwich is it's diversity of character you shouldn't be trying to trash businesses before they've got off the ground because empty units is not a good look for the area, just a little food for thought

Welcome to the neighbourhood. I think the shop front looks great, and in keeping with that end of Kirkdale - the architecture of those buildings lends itself to an urban/ industrial aesthetic.

Admin - any chance we could have these comments split away from Eagle's original post as the title isn't really apt anymore (as well as having (what I assume is) a typo that makes me do a double take every time I see it)? Perhaps from where the trader introduces himself?

Must admit to typo error.

I have noticed most people in favour of body desecration. I admit defeat .

Goodwill to all.

Sydenham is not better than Dulwich. That's obvious to mankind.

I welcome this business to Sydenham.

It offers something different. I'd rather have this than another nail bar, hairdresser, low rent convenience store etc.

I'm sorry that your welcome to the area has been blighted by Eagles rather unpleasant original post and I hope that the positive comments by others have been more welcoming. I personally don't like tattoo's, but I do think that they are often incredible and skilful works of art. I'm just not a fan of the canvas!

It's a shame that (and this goes for most tattoo places) the signage doesn't look or feel like an art gallery or tattoo place and its a bit cheap, shiny and wobbly (I know we talked about the signage before Rob, sorry I couldn't help). I'm amazed that tattoo parlours don't look like the most attractive shops on the high street.

I can see this erupting into a debate on this thread about 'this are is better than that area'. Sydenham isn't better than Dulwich. It's different. But it's not better. It's also not as successful. Sydenham can learn from other areas. If we stick our heads in the sand and say 'we are better than so in so' we will never learn and we will never improve, which has been part of the problem in Sydenham. Sydenham has to compete.

I genuinely with you good luck Rob. I know how difficult it is starting a new business.

Lee

If you note my late comment was in saying that , as it seems as if I am in the minority , then so be it.

In my experience most peoples idea of art and fashion changes completely between , say 18 and 70.

I find it hard to believe that some people do not in later years curse why they had it.

Again I could be quite wrong and everyone who has one never regrets it in years to come.

I don't think its right for any business opening in Sydenham to have to put up with this type of 'welcome' at the very least admin should have changed the title to this thread.I noticed the STF troll started this exact thread previously but obviously didn't get the response they wanted & felt the need to repost it all again. Its such a shame because if you want to find out about things going on in Sydenham this is the first (only?) place to visit & it would be much nicer to read positive things about the area than anonymous rants & negative comments about its local businesses.

The OP can edit the title if they so wish.
I don't think you really want me editing titles I don't like

Admin

PS There is a thread in Town Cafe celebrating a business. It is not the only great business in Sydenham. Why not see who gets the most agreeable responses?

PS2 Did not the negative post generate more positive responses than could ever be expected from a neutral post? It appears Rob paradoxically benefited from it. The beauty of forums is they can be self correcting.
