House on the corner of High Level Drive and Westwood Hill

Post by davegr »

Dose anyone know anything about the house on the corner of High Level Drive and Westwood Hill?

I've lived in the area for 8 years and no one has lived there in all that time. In recent years the owners have put a metal fence around it and the wooden garden fence keeps getting repaired after fly tippers break it down to dump rubbish.

I wondered if the owners had bigger plans and wanted to knock the place down and build flats as there seems to be an enormous garden.

It's such an eyesore now and must be a pain for the people who live next door.

Prior to being boarded it, it was regularly being used as a crack den. That was probably about 5/6 years ago.

I remember that house when it was inhabited, it used to have a wagon wheel [not the biscuit bar!] fixed on the side or front of it.

It was painted white then, i remember the lady that lived there, its been a long while since its had anyone living there i think?

We had some new window locks fitted about 3yrs ago when we lived near that house. The guy from the security company also fitted the security stuff over there and he told us the house was owned by an old lady living elsewhere, didn't say where tho'.

Thats the one. It seems such a shame its been empty for so long. People just use it to dump rubbish in and god know what else. It would be great to see someone living there again.

My partner lived in the top floor flat at 100 Westwood Hill (next door also called Dover and Chatham House). He lived here from 1990 til 1999. This building was always known as the "Coach House" for Dover and Chatham House and I believe was built at the same time.

It was owned by an elderly lady who was still resident til approx. 1997 and there was a dispute between her family members as to what to do with the property and who exactly was responsible for it as the old lady retired and moved away.

Seems its still not resolved. Hope this helps.
