My name is Dr. Katy Layton-Jones. I am a historian working in the field of urban history and specifically parks (see http://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/urbanhistory/people for my credentials) . 2006-8 I conducted a big research project into Liverpool's parks and have just been commissioned by English Heritage to conduct a National Review of parks. I would like to use Crystal Palace Park as a case study. I will keep you posted via this forum.
However, what I'm posting about here is basically a request. I have written a chapter about CPP for a book on urban conservation and I need an image of the Flying Machine. I see there are some on here. If you own one, would you be prepared to let me use a scan of it in this book? I'm not being paid for the book - it's an academic publication - so I can't pay, but I will credit you as the copyright holder. Please get in touch if you have one. Looking forward to future exchanges on this website!
Many thanks,
Katy

Sure, let me know if the resolution is not high enough and if you PM me an email address I can send you a larger file.

I need to add Valentines to this thread, one of their earliest is a view of Maxim's Machine by the fountain basin that soon became a football pitch, I might have already posted in somewhere here on this forum.

Or there's this which has just been lsited on eBay -

I am wondering if anyone has come across images of the Malay Village in the 1911 or any other empire exhibtion? Its strange that on the map its right next door to the Indian pavilion and the Maxim Flying machine...but nothing to show what the village looked like.... given this is such an amazing site for these kinds of postcards...I quite imagine that if you havent seen them...then perhaps there are not any at all.... Any suggestions where else I might look?

Thanks again for sharing such invaluable material! vb,/erika
