My take on London's Riots

He stated on the wireless that the understood the anger of the family of the criminals family.

He had no right to say this on our behalf. Guy, we are given to understand , was a gangland criminal and no sympathy should be forthcoming.

I understand the anger. The police can't just go around shooting people dead. Don't care who the suspect was nor whether black or white, or mixed race, or a "bad penny". The point is that police marksmen should be trained properly to keep their cool or we could all find ourselves being shot, even by stray bullets as innocent bystanders. It has been said that policemen don't want to carry guns so maybe some who do might be nervously twitchy or be in shoot-to-kill mode. Who knows? The suspect was shot twice though, which worries me a bit given he apparently wasn't running.

I'm prepared to accept the split second decision thing (no choice); still doesn't mean it was right or should have happened though.

As for the throwing of the gun, surely that would have been a visible arm hurling movement, not a reaching into pocket for mobile phone? A lot of questions remain unanswered. In fairness to the shooting cop, I doubt he can seriously remember much about the incident as human nature says that people rarely accurately remember things which happen so quickly, then things become "this must be what happened" so not necessarily what did, but he'll no doubt have a couple of hundred advisers "helping" him to piece it together.

It's hard to know whether times have moved on, especially in what was undoubtedly a tense area. One can change the PR spin, not the underlying thinking.

I'm glad Duggan was shot. It's justice right there. Disgusting creature, it's good he was shot before he shot anybody else.

I strongly disagree with Parker's sentiment, not that I condone drug dealers who are out to whack a fellow drug dealer/crook.
I think it would have been best if the police were in a position to incapacitate the person rather than take a life however if you live by the sword you die by it so he must have known the risks of carrying a gun? decent people don't carry guns?

That's the impression you give.

I hope there are not more riots , but no way should be give in to the thugs and parasites .

Whilst anyone would regret the death of anyone under those circumstances, it is insulting to our intelligence to pretend that this mans character does not influence how we feel .
That is not saying he deserved it - at all - but I cannot agree with the anger and public outcry it has caused .
The biggest villains in all this the well meaning and not so well meaning liberals that use language like "execution " . It was clearly not .
I hold awful careerists like Diane Abbot much more culpable for the riots than the police officer who was doing his duty to the best if his ability - especially when his family are at least calling for people to stay peaceful .

Presumably, Eagle, you think it would be wise for someone in the Government to state publicly that they have no sympathy with Duggan's family? Some wisdom...

Or do you think that the jury who reached a verdict having seen all the evidence somehow represent the Government?

i think HMG should not have been involved. After all what do they , as individuals , know of the facts compared with The Jury.

Of course The Jury do not represent the Government , they represent you and me

I am just fed up with crocodile tears from people who should no better. To put it mildly the man was no saint.
