''The Windmill public house is a vital part of the social infrastructure of Sydenham and Forest Hill's Kirkdale community.''

Well that's laying it on thick if ever I've read...

...and Kirkdale is Sydenham, not Forest Hill.

The upper part of Kirkdale that includes the Windmill is in Forest Hill Ward.

Mary, i think this explains your point https://www.lewisham.gov.uk/getinvolved ... es2008.jpg
The Windmill is indeed covered by FOREST HILL WARD (LBL political boundary) councillors.

Trolling? I'm just shocked that you think The Windmill is of any use to anyone in Sydenham (upper, lower, Kirkdale, Penge East) let alone 'Forest Hill'... Why don't we help revive the social infrastructure of Dulwich, Crystal Palace, Penge, Catford, Beckenham and Honor Oak too for good measure... to strengthen this campaign.

I on the other hand am looking forward to the Sainsbury's opening in the new year.

Why? Are you having difficulty finding a local supermarket?
No, difficulty finding a decent pub though.

Thank you all very much. Please pass on the link to anyone you know who also might be concerned. Not just for the Windmill as it is now, but for its potential.

Signed and Tweeted.

Have you got SE London Camra to support this? They could really push up numbers.

Me too.

I'm no fan of the pub and my two experiences in there have not been pleasant and the building is ugly, but I'd prefer it to have the opportunity to be a great pub (which from Mary's posts seems to be the case) than to be yet another supermarket which is the same brand as one a few minutes walk away.

I agree. There are so few communal spaces in Sydenham - an opportunity exists as long as the pub is still a pub. The Two Half's, not to everyone's taste, was a place where people could sit down and talk to other locals. These seem to be diminishing.
At the risk of irritating Rod Taylor and doubtless others, why do communal spaces have to be pubs? What's wrong with cafés, which are actually opening up in Sydenham Road, as in other High Streets? If we saw communal space as a priority, where people could sit down and talk to each other, are we actually losing it?
