Did you fail to notice the exceptional coffee shop next door to the market.

A good idea methinks. It was rather chilly yesterday so a cup of Enid Blyton stylee hot chocolate and choc bic to dip would have gone down well. Also, with craft items, some potential gift purchases aren't always impulse buys, so, peeps could sit awhile at On the Hoof.Bunty wrote:It would be lovely if the station coffee shop could open when the market is on, lovely coffee and would persuade people down to the stalls on station approach and somewhere to sit and eat the yummy market wares

On advertising, if no music, would noise abatement rules allow a Town Cryer with a hand bell "Oh Yez, Oh yez"? Brilliant photo opportunity for children now that most peeps have camera phones?
Re: Sydenham Market last Sunday of the month
I agree that not enough people in Sydenham seem to be aware of it - if you aren't on this forum or joined the SEE3 facebook page etc then the marketing isn't visible enough. Maple Road was quite a simple banner attached to a fence so anyone walking along or parking in Maple Road could see which dates the market was on.sarahsyd wrote:I think it's a great initiative and can only be good for Sydenham.
We weren't able to visit yesterday but have enjoyed the other markets and have always made lots of purchases. We also once had lunch sitting on the benches in Venner Square and chatted to other locals, which was lovely.
Hopefully it will also encourage more traders to open on Sunday and the increased weekend footfall may then encourage new retailers/cafés on to the High Street.
One thing - I haven't really seen the markets advertised anywhere apart from on the forum. Are any posters put up? I have recently spoken with locals who were unaware it was happening. (I have seen several posters for the Maple Road market).

Make sure you visit the Sydenham Market today as there are some great traders joining us - Mr Muffin will be back with sausage and brown sauce muffins; Elvira's Secret Pantry has her veggie tarts, rosemary bread and a fabulous range of cakes; the popular Advocado cafe returns with dips and salsas; DB Foods will be serving up something special and many more food stalls. We also have some arts & crafts with Entoptika Photography returning from last month with some more prints and cards that make great gifts. The sun is shining and we open at 10am - looking to trade to 4pm or when sold out!

Re: Sydenham Market last Sunday of the month
Many thanks to everyone who came along to support the market. Our next market is the last Sunday of November - 24th and our Christmas market will be on Sunday 15th December.
Our pitch fees are £35 which includes the stall set up and the Lewisham street trading licence. We offer a reduced pitch fee if you bring your own stall. All stall holders have to be registered with Lewisham's Street Market Section which costs £11 and means you can trade at any of Lewisham's markets. More info and application form is on Lewisham's web site under street trading.
We hope to expand the offer and use Venner Road square and Station Approach along with some entertainment. Please visit the SEE3 web site - SEE3.co.uk for more details or email info@SEE3.co.uk

Re: Sydenham Market last Sunday of the month
Hello.
I've joined up to get involved and find out more about the local area, but I've done it tonight specifically to bump up this thread and remind people that the next market is on THIS Sunday, as I'm doing a stall there.
I've been selling my own photo prints at markets (as Entoptika Photography) since I started the business as long ago as September this year, after being made redundant from science in March. Obviously, I've been taking photos for longer than that, but never attempted to make a living from it.
I've been living in the area (near Bell Green) for 4 years now, after escaping from Tooting and I really love it.
The markets are a good day out and it's always nice to speak to people about the photos on display.
Do come and say hello.

No trains this Sunday, so you'll have to stay in Sydenham to do your shopping!

Don't miss this Sunday's street market in Venner Road square. It's your chance to pick up some great-tasting street food, stock up with delicious goodies and do some early Christmas shopping.
Don't forget to call in at the Sydenham Society stall for music including jazz and George Formby!
