5 year anniversary
Re: 5 year anniversary
Wow Robin, Prince Arthur Road is in the really posh bit! I was two roads away from you when you were in Lisburn(e?) Road, just off Mansfield road. I used to go running up Parliament Hill. I loved living there. I was paying £100 a week back in 2000! But I wanted to buy so I bought a huge flat above an empty shop in Brockley for £120k, which was great until we started having drive by shootings and drug dealing when the shop opened.

Re: 5 year anniversary
Yes, Prince Arthur Road was a great address. We were next door to a house where Sir Thomas Beecham had allegedly rented a room to keep his billiards table in. And I am proud to look back on drinking in the William IV, one of London's oldest gay pubs.
But, for reasons I still don't really understand, the rent was was incredibly cheap back in 1971 - I seem to remember that my share was something like £3.50p per week. (But then I was earning less than £1000 a year).
Lisburne Road (thanks for correcting my spelling) was nice too, with a lot of vaguely arty neighbours and wonderful walks over the Heath to Kenwood or Jack Straw's Castle. Sydenham in 2013 is ....well, not all that different in some ways! (Except for the gay pubs?)

Moved here in July 2007, after looking for a flat to buy in Mitcham and not liking what was on offer and a friend suggested Sydenham, my response was where?

August Bank Holiday 1969 and also came to school in Sydenham from 1955 - 1961.
However I do know a lovely Sydenham resident who is 92 years old and she still lives in the house in which she was born. That will take a lot of beating....

Pat
I know of two residents of SE26 , both 91 , that have lived all their lives in SE26 excepting war duties.
Probably more people than you think who have spent all their lives here , but you are correct , it is quite an achievement.

Since 1996 and in the same house since 1999. I love the transport links and the green spaces. People are so surprised to know how quickly I can get to Victoria, London Bridge or Blackfriars. I am really excited about what Sydenham may become - that's why I'm sticking with it.
