Thanks in advance.

Double Glazing Recommendations?
Re: Double Glazing Recommendations?
Do you want uPVC or traditional sashes? I know a local carpenter who does replacement wooden sashes with double-glazing and draught proofing who is very reasonable.

Re: Double Glazing Recommendations?
We used Crestshield windows, family run and based in Penge. We went for Sash UPVC, and actually you can't really tell the difference.

They were really good and great value compared to other companies.
Good luck!

Re: Double Glazing Recommendations?
Quite understand cost is a factor. However, you might find this guy cheaper than you think. He came in at about half what the bigger firms were quoting and the windows he did for me are great. It was a few years ago, but as far as I remember it was under £300 for a standard sash, custom made and double glazed, up to £600 for a huge one with specialist sandblasted glass. And he refurbishes existing windows if they can be saved - I didn't need to replace all of mine, some were just overhauled.

Re: Double Glazing Recommendations?
What sort of windows are you replacing Pip? If you are in a conservation area beware of UPVC, you may be breaking planning laws.
Mybuilder and rated people were absolutely rubbish in trying to find windows for the back of my property (and pretty much everything else). I went to a number of companies but couldn't face the daft selling techniques of most window companies. Avoid anyone who says 'if you buy it now…', 'because you are near a phone box and school and you allow us to put a sign outside…" you get a HUGE discount because they are all lying.
If you have wooden sash I'd recommend going to a company like 'the sash window workshop' or similar and get them retrofitted with double glazing and repaired. It was cheaper than replacement in my last property, looked better and the flat kept it's value. Cheap double glazing doesn't last long, is often poorly fitted and more trouble than it's worth. And it looks rubbish. And it can devalue your home.
Another alternative is Secondary glazing.
If your windows aren't sash, consider fitting something like Velfac windows (we are doing this at the back of our house where we dont have sash windows in the kitchen). They are far more thermally efficient than UPVC (the frames are wood composite with powdercoated aluminium outers) and we found them cheaper than UPVC (although you have it find a separate installer as Velfac don't install their own windows).
A few houses locally have them, no 11 and 13 in Tannersfield road are (so you can go and have a look). Ours will too soon. The frames are thin so let in more light.
Rachael, please share your sash guy!

Re: Double Glazing Recommendations?
My sash guy is called The Sash Guy! Full name Guy Chadwick. He's based in East Dulwich, makes all the frames himself, gets them glazed then him and his mate fit them. His number is 07701 095993.
