Thriffwood

Post by sirrocco »

I used to live in Thriffwood a little cul-de-sac off of Silverdale and remember there being 22 houses there, we used to play in Mayow Park and when I lived there, there was a big house next to it, with a lord and lady Baird living there, I have been told now that is has now been pulled down, but my 2 brothers, my sister and I used to go scrumping in the orchard in the grounds of that house and once got caught by lady Baird who had a Butler..lol she wasn't angry at us but told us to come and help ourselves whenever we liked... she was a very lovely old lady.
I went to St bartholemews primary school when I very young but only for the first year I then went to Adamrill in the 60's and on to sydenham High school for girls Until 1970-71 when I moved to Norfolk, Does anybody remember the woods on Dacres road near the red telephone box, we used to play in the swamp over there, and it was fenced off later to turn it into a bird sactuary, but we still got in :0). I had a very happy childhood in Sydenham and have found loads of things about it on the internet, I take my driving test next month and one of the first things I want to do when I get a car is visit again and see how much it has changed
