A bottle of bubbly for the first case of an Estate Agent marketing a property in Sydenham as 'Forest Hill borders'?Michael wrote:Now that the pools are finally open it is worth casting a look back five years when things were not looking so good for Forest Hill.
I was possibly a bit optimistic, and somehow failed to predict Jay-Z and Charles Saatchi visiting the local cafes. But there is no doubting the fact that Forest Hill town centre has begun the difficult process of improving despite the recession and Internet Shopping.
Forest Hill Borders
Forest Hill Borders
Michael is justifiably happy over on www.se23.com

And get their windows smashed in!
This is strictly Dulwich Borders and suggesting mixing it with some Forest Hillbillies could seriously damage your front door. Geddit?

Re: Forest Hill Borders
Parts of SE23 have improved greatly over the last few years , one can not deny it but not all.
The best area by far is bordered by London Road and The Railway Line.
Of course one welcomes the new retail outlets of last few years.

Lorry Park Rd Dulwich Borders > I think not.
Could be Penge borders and even historically Beckenham borders but not Dulwich.

'Twixt Dulwich and Blackheath'? (Cf. 'Twixt the Commons', Clapham and Wandsworth).
Re: Forest Hill Borders
Or twixt Catford and Penge.
Re: Forest Hill Borders
If you can have a language school in Brixton, called South Chelsea College, then we can definitely be Dulwich Borders.

A truly scary looking pair of critters Mike.
They look like a couple of moonshiners from the Brockley Bayou area!

Oi. Watch it, or I'll get my brother - who is also my cousin and may even be my father - over to sort you horrible SE26ers out.

Re: Forest Hill Borders
But they will never 'av the class of Sydenhamites. Why Mike Abrahams and his Forest Hill Libby mates were so jealous they got their CleggyBoots to torpedo the proposed 'Sydenham & Dulwich' constituency on some weak pretext of House of Lords reform or whatever.
And Eagle - we are Dulwich Borders, I have it in writing from Hamptons so it must be true. They describe in their brochure how Sydenham Avenue is so convenient for the village shops in deepest Dulwich. No mention of Penge ... why that would require you to pass under the viaduct that seperates civilisation from SE20. Unthinkable to the cultured classes.

Estate Agents.

I love them not.mikecg wrote:Estate Agents.
But I have to say no one can mangle history quite like they can. Kirkdale Village? It's part of Liverpool. Now that Kirkdale Village really did used to be a village when an ancestral branch of my family tree lived there. But it has never, ever been part of Sydenham.
I also love the way they described Steve Grindlay's film about the original High Street as a film on the History of Kirkdale Village. I don't think I'm breaking any secrets by saying Steve also hates the misuse of "village" for a part of Sydenham that has never, ever been a village.
Re: Forest Hill Borders
Steve also disapproves of my use of 'Town' in STF. "Sydenham has never been a town".
There you have it. Sydenham and Kirkdale are unique and quite beyond description. But should they hide behind some one else's borders?
