Hi,
One of our users (see IT Help thread) has a Toshiba that is so badly infected with trojans it really ought to be re-formatted and Windows XP re-installed. Sadly she has lost the recovery discs that came with the laptop..
If you have a Toshiba Satellite recovery/installation discs for XP Home (preferably but not essentially model A30/203) it would be great if we could borrow them for a day. If you prefer you can stay and watch if you don't want them to leave your possession.
This Satellite is properly licensed with its own Microsoft Certificate of Authority and Prod Key so it would not be using your licence and is quite legal. Otherwise I would not be party to it.
If you can help please PM me.

Hi Eagle,
Are you saying you can back convert a XPP installation to XPH by just using the Product Key? I do have XPP generic version installation CDs and indeed a Toshiba version with utilities. But assumed this would not work which is why I was looking for an XPH CD. I wouldn't want to try and fail ...

I have only done this once before on an old Tiny or Time PC I just reformatted everything and reinstalled everything using the serial number etc.
However before you proceed, I think you should double check that it will be OK with the Toshiba.
If you are going to do a format and re-install then it is a whole lot easier to make a disk of all your current drivers before you start by using something like;
http://www.driverguidetoolkit.com/ (there are also several others on the net for free).
It is much quicker to load all the drivers from this disk than to faff around with the original utilities disk, plus you will have all the drivers for anything that has been subsequently added to the laptop. As a safely precaution I would virus check the disk before using it to load up the reformatted laptop.
Sorry but I only have XPP. You can download (or order a CD) of XP service pack 2 from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx However, I’m not sure if this can be used as a fresh install or if it only works if you have XP service pack 1 already installed. I suspect the latter, but as it’ll only work with a valid serial number it might install onto a blank machine.

I've worked in IT for a very long time and am a MCP (Microsoft Cirtified Professional) Plus I Used to have a computer shop on sydenham highsteet (looking for a new one) and i can tell you:
Your cant use an XP Home Key on XP Pro But you should be able to use any XP Home OS Disk so long as its in the right range by this i mean your key may be for XP Home with no service pack and the cd could have XP home with Service Pack 1 - the cd keys may not then work.

Thanks Mark - I was pretty sure but nothing surprises me with Microsoft - Do you remember back in the days of Windows 2000 when you could enter the prod-id of any 2k package for almost any other 2k product!
BTW - I clipped your ad. Mainly as an inducement to be our first advertiser in our Classified Section. People have been wanting to post local ads and there is a "no-ad" rule in the TownTalk section. But as of a few minutes ago we launched the *new classified section* where you are very, very welcome to post stuff like that. Hope it gets you more trade. Its free - but if you ever run into me in the Dolphin - its your round
Meanwhile we are still hunting for an XPH disc ... can anybody help?
