Always greatfull for some Floyd Mike (truly amazing)..

I was having a Deep Purple moment (well quite a few moments) and re-visited Child in
time. Bit slow to take off and drawn out at the beginning but really worth it as really builds
up then builds up more. Gillan totally in control - superb vocals and amazing musicians all of
them.
Regretably I missed out on their live performance at Lewisham Odeon in the 70's..

Agree Mike,
Blackmore is the master of tone where a strat is concerned (imo) and his technique has been emulated by many (I loved Blackmores Rainbow too )..

He was shredding before shredding had been thought about and I don't mean those machines
you put old paper documents in!

While in this train of thought I can't exclude Jan Akkerman who was definitely in my top
guitarist list during my informal guitaring years, unfortunately I sounded nothing like him
whatsoever.

The vocals by Thijs van Leer are very different to anything I've heard since but very apt in
a strange sort of Dutch way. Get ready to cover your ears when Thijs hits those high notes!
Keyboards, guitar, bass and drums just brilliant (still amazes me)!

A change of mood now with Marc Antoine, a very original classical guitarist who composes
some brilliant fusion music - Beats, Jazz and mellow guitar. He's well worth listening to if
'Ambient moody music' is your thing! I have very varied tastes in music.

Barry Godber (1946–1970), a computer programmer, painted the album cover. Godber died in February 1970 of a heart attack, shortly after the album's release. It would be his only painting, and is now owned by Robert Fripp.[6][7] Fripp had this to say about Godber:
Peter brought this painting in and the band loved it. I recently recovered the original from EG's offices because they kept it exposed to bright light, at the risk of ruining it, so I ended up removing it. The face on the outside is the Schizoid Man, and on the inside it's the Crimson King. If you cover the smiling face, the eyes reveal an incredible sadness. What can one add? It reflects the music.

Thanks for the info Mike. That is the sort of art (album cover) that really sticks in your
mind. I had that album in the 70's and was fascinated by the art work at the time. Thanks
to the web and sites like wiki we can now learn more (just wish it had been around then)!

Album covers and 70's progressive music has got me thinking about bands similar-ish to
King Crimson, at least in a similar vein: Uriah Heep was one of those bands with their own
individual sound and great sadness in the vocals by David Byron (up till 1976)..
What's more; really great art work on their album covers by Roger Dean. I was looking at the
large collection of album covers by Dean a few weeks back and quite a few Uriah Heep covers
were in there.

I think that Isaac Slade's voice is right for this song Mary. No wonder Fray had big success
with 'How to save a life'. Good lyrics and his unaffected singing style go together well.

I like the recipe of poignant lyrics in slower downbeat tempo with up tempo breaks during
upbeat chorus line (sort of back and forth) to stress the point and add feeling. A proven song recipe used by many over the years.
I like the way Mumford and sons use this recipe albeit in a different way/style to glue the
chorus line to our memory, Marcos Mumford's voice is very unaffected (apart from strange
accent) too..

I know it's a very different song to 'How to save a life' but just shows how an natural
voice style can put a song across very well. Entertaining video, I thought, too!

What could have been really quite angry and intense lyrics counterposed with that upbeat tune and a very clever video.

Just what I needed at the end of quite an intense work day

Oh and I googled Marcos Mumford ... all that talent and Carey Mulligan too. Very impressive.
