Re: Busses
Annie I'd put it the other way round. I think you can't afford not to be left wing.
Eagle you are a classic. Not a peep about 415 billion going to the richest 1000 people and all the scrounging tax evasion that goes with it but you have a dig at public sector pensions in local government. Two facts for you. Firstly the scheme pays for itself out of contributions. Seconly the average local government pension is 4000 pounds a year, 2600 for women. Hardly gold plated. With a mortgage and family responsibilities and four years in a row of a pay freeze I think I know about the real world.

Well put Mike!mikecg wrote:Compassion is free Annie. I wouldn't say that I can afford to be left wing? but I can afford to look beyond the pale. The system is at fault and any reforms must be implemented fairly and the government should protect vulnerable people and make sure that any policy changes do not push people to living on the brink, what I mean by this is that any implemented changes shouldn't push the young in to a life of drudgery that leads them down the path of gangs, drugs, prostitution and crime. They need to think very carefully on this IMO.Annie. wrote:Well lucky you Mike, I also understand now why you can afford to be a bit ( cough cough) left wing.
I cannot afford that luxury.
We have a moral duty to ensure that the young get fair opportunity at the least!

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody's searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfilled my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me

We all agree with this sentiment but we must make sure that the genuine people that are in trouble do not get abandoned by the state.Annie. wrote:Really? ;0)

Mike
No local Government scheme which is inflation linked pays for itself from the employees contributions.
If that were the case they would be happy to scrap these schemes and contribute to their own private pension. Then they would appreciate the true value of their inflation linked pension.
You mention the amount of the national income I think controlled by the top 1000 persons. I have no idea whether this is correct or not but assuming it is so what. Of course they should all pay tax if they live in the UK. Of course very rich are very mobile in today's world and can move with their money easily.
Heard David Cameron's speech today and agree 100% . The amazing this is that anyone would disagree.

I can fully appreciate getting people back in to work or changing mindsets for people to aspire for a better life, my only concern is that some people could find themselves in a vary precarious situation.

Re: Busses
Eagle what are you talking about. The pension scheme is fine so why privatise it lol
Google the times rich list for richest 1000 people, it's not hard. As for the toff Etonian Cameron and his privileged and pampered clique attacking working cconditions, welfare, the NHS, education, pensions and all the while protecting the pampered, scrounging rich. No who could possibly disagree with that?

Re: Busses
I know your pension scheme is fine. Fine for you and your colleagues, but not fine for the taxpayer who has to fund it.

Re: Busses
I appreciate you contribute.
What I am saying is that if you instead put your contributions in a bank and invested them and you live to the average age , you will be thousands short.
The state is picking up the difference.

No you are wrong again. The contributions are invested in the stock market.

Which has done nothing for about 15 years.cockneyrebel wrote:No you are wrong again. The contributions are invested in the stock market.
My god, it's actually quite insane when you think about it
Blow that, you may as well go to Spain every year rather than let some dodgy shark investors gamble with your future.
You could always do a Benny Hill and stuff your money under the mattress.
Re: Busses
If your contributions were invested in the stock market no way they could guarantee you a final salary inflation linked scheme. Surely you can see that.
Your contribution is a small percentage of what you will get paid , assuming average life. Rest paid by Council Tax Payers and Taxpayers.

Re: Busses
I think Docs and "Teachers" are taking the rise? Actually who is to blame? the people who said they could have such pensions which = .uk.gov. I'd be upset if I were told my pension scheme I'd bought into was being amended in favor of everyone except me, I'd have a right monk on.Eagle wrote:If your contributions were invested in the stock market no way they could guarantee you a final salary inflation linked scheme. But we must remember that financial advisers in the 90's didn't need to follow any guidelines, exactly what's going on with the banks. They are forever trying to swizz people out of their hard earned. I know at least one case where a person in their 70's were sold stocks that would not mature for at least 30 years

Many of whom are 'Public sector workers' who definitely pay tax (as all on PAYE)..Eagle wrote: Your contribution is a small percentage of what you will get paid , assuming average life. Rest paid by Council Tax Payers and Taxpayers.
My god! that means I'm paying into it twice!
BTW: Gary Barlow, Jimmy Carr and other rich tax dodgers don't pay towards it, in fact
they don't pay towards much at all do they?

That situation will hopefully decapitate call me Dave from the cabinet once it reaches critical mass.14BradfordRoad wrote:

Here's hoping, funny how Cameron has gone silent since he found out his mate Gary was in the same scheme and most of the front bench are on the fiddle.

If we are all in this together then: Put them on P.A.Y.E and a 4 year pay freeze!
Problem is then sorted!
