Hi All. Apologies if this has been covered elseware, but I would love to know if anyone has any old photos of Holmshaw road at Lower Sydenham. I lived at number 66, wat back in the 50/60's and I must say thet were among the happiest days of my life. I moved out of London in 1967 to move to Wellingborough in Northants purely because of the housing. I used to work between 1955 to 1964 at a firm called Broadwall Engineering Company which was situated in Kent House Lane in Beckenham.I often wonder if any of my old workmates are still alive anf if so I'd dearly like to make contact with them.66Holmshaw road was a typical 2 up and 2 down house with an outside loo, no hot water or central heating, but I have some wonderful lifetime memories from living there. I've done internet searches without success, so really this is my last resort, If anyone can help in my request, that would be wonderful. Thanks for reading this.

I know an ARTHUR WATLING. lived at no 38 holmshaw road,sydenham,1940 to 1950.

Looks like it was a happy street with fond memories. But where was it, I couldn't find it on a map? Was it part of Lewishams misguided so called 'slum clearence' program as in this?:

I hoe someone can help you Steeleye, but it would be great to hear some of your stories about the street and the area in Lower Sydenham, especially if you have some of Home Park or Sydenham Library and the shops in Lower Sydenham. I live in Fairlawn Park so any stories of that street would be appreciated too.

I lived in holmshaw road in the (cough cough)50s. I can't remember the number but I'll ask my mum. We moved when I was five. I can remember my dad being livid when he found me tied to a lamppost during a game of cowboys and Indians.
I don't think I have any pix of the street, but I have of Home park.
We lived in the upstairs half of a house. The owners were called Teresa and john and the lived downstairs. They were lovely people. Sadly Teresa died very young. I still have her mass card.

I was born in Holmshaw Road in 1953 and lived there right up until the houses were pulled down about 1974-1975. If I remember rightly Gladys Watling lived next door to Shepherds the off licence. Shepherds was in the middle of Holmshaw on the corner of the crossroads with Kirtly Road. She was a friend of my Mum's and Aunts (sadly both no longer with us). No. 66 would of been more or less opposite where I lived at 63 perhaps you could give me more information. If I don't know maybe my cousin who also was born in Holmshaw might remember. Holmshaw Road was rebuilt and is now called Holmshaw Close. It was a lovely road to spend my childhood in very friendly.

Not sure when this was taken but many moons ago. Looks like a horse and cart on right side of road. I lived at this top end on right side of road my Great Aunt lived at the first house you can see on left.

Hi. I see this was posted many years back. My family lived at No. 64. I was very young when we left. I'd love some idea of how life was there.
