What is the best Indian restaurant around Sydenham?
Re: What is the best Indian restaurant around Sydenham?
I have been told that Gara Masala has changed hands and really isn't that good anymore: My parents have stopped going - which is a shame considering they have been going there in its various incarnations for nearly 30 years.

Do you not mean the best Bangladesh Restuarant.
Very few if any have Indian staff and cooks

I would have thought you would have wanted them to be British, judging by your comments on the French bakery in Kirkdale.Eagle wrote:

Many of them are British but born of Bengali parents . Nothing wrong with that .

As long as they have Indian or Bangladeshi background music playing, dimmed lighting
and retain a rich Indian restaurant atmosphere. This all adds to the experience and so
to the taste of a great Indian dish in my opinion.
Even if the dish was created in Birmingham, I won't mind at all!

I agree and had some lovely meals of sub continent origin in Brum and Black Country

In my previous post I mentioned India Gate are going to serve Indian tapas. They are having official launch night tonight. First tapas free when you buy a drink. There's a voucher over at se23 forum (not sure if i'm allowed to mention that on here).

They are take -away only (they also do cook in your home) but I once tried Neel Family Kitchen when they were doing tasters at the grand opening of Billings. It was exceptional and I don't know why I have not ordered take away from them since. I will try them and will feed back but I was mightily impressed- very fresh , light and free of the "generic taste" that G-Man referred to.

Having been a loyal Ghurka's customer for the past 5 years I decided to try Barakah after reading this thread. I thought it was really good, reasonably priced, tasty, good selection of food. They even threw in some free spiced veggies, chocolates and those hot wet wipe things. So now I'm torn as to which is the best. Great to have 2 really good curry houses to choose from though.

Yak and Yeti in Crystal Palace get my vote - and they do good takeaways too.
