In praise of Penge Food Centre and Quinces

Post by Tim Lund »

Life in Sydenham can be peachy - or more precisely quincy - when your have helped a neighbour pick the quinces in her garden, and your partner - wife in my case - has found a Raymond Blanc recipe for baking them which calls for not only cloves, but star anise. Where else to go to find such an exotic ingredient but Penge Food Centre!

Penge Food Centre is absolutely brilliant. My partner is a chef and he is very fussy about his produce and often has to travel far and wide to get the ingredients he wants for dinner parties etc. We moved to Sydenham a couple of months ago and the thing my partner was most excited about the move was living near PFC! He raves non-stop about the quality and the variety of what is available in there. He is a very happy man to have that as a local shop. And 5Kg of tomatoes for £3.99? Needless to say my freezer is full of tomato soup!

Absolutely grateful to have them so much more closer! Though the one in Penge isn't too far away, trying to find parking when popping in is a nightmare.

I between them and Sainsbury's I shop there weekly, mostly for their fresh produce, halal meats and other products, duru soap, and my absolute faaaaavourite drink: Uludag Gazoz.
