Bake sell for Japan

Hi everybody...

My friend Michiko and I are selling home baked cakes to raise money for the Red Cross Japan Appeal. We will be at Penge Congregational Church 172 High Street SE20 7QS from 11.00 to 2.00pm this Saturday 9th July. They will be freshly baked and affordable, have a little cake and help the japanese people!!

I have to say I agree with Eagle. I don't recall seeing reports of an influx of donations from Tokyo following the Tsunami of Brixton Hill yesterday. I dont expect to see the spoils of a 'sushi off' anytime soon.

Sorry Pantwetter. It might be an attempt to be funny but your post just came across as beyond tastelessness to me. You appear to shoot from the hip a bit too fast.

This thread was someone's attempt to do something good for this terrible natural disaster. Criticism is OK. Ridicule is just cruel.

I don't want to take anyone to task in the Town Hall but I fail to see tastelessness or ridicule at all. Like Eagle said they don't need anymore aid. It says a lot about our kindly people in this country but I doubt it would be reciprocated from arguably the most buoyant economy in the world at the moment. That was my point.

I am 99% certain I saw info from The Japanese Government thanking every body but saying they were a rich country and did not need any aid.
If I am wrong I apologise.

It is a noble act wanting to help. They are such a polite people , if only people here acted half as politely then we would be on a winner.

If the Red Cross are sponsoring the appeal, they must feel there is a need, perhaps for something specialised which they are best placed to provide. Soon after the earthquake, I was asked, by a Japanese acquaintance, to contribute to an appeal run by an international organization which supplied emergency shelters. These had been specifically requested by the mayors of five cities in Iwate prefecture.

Perhaps it was Government to Government aid the Japanese said they weren't asking for.
