Garden gates stolen from Byne Road last night

Post by angela53 »

I awoke this morning to find that the metal garden gate from the front of our house had been stolen overnight. I heard a noise at 1am. but thought it was someone getting out a taxi so did not bother to get up and check. I discovered later on today that a large number of gates had been stolen from our road. A neighbour saw them at around 1.15am. It would appear that this has been happening all over the borough. They just come along and lift them of their hinges and sell them for scrap value. What are the police doing about this? I suspect not a lot!

My gate was also stolen. Apparently one of them fell off the lorry and the guy at the end of Byne Road has got it. I heard it's quite an ornate one. I'm going to report it to the police tomorrow and let you know if I find out anything.

Why do you suspect that? Have you reported it? What would you like them to do?

I've pm'd you.

The police are scrutinising scrap metal dealers a lot these days due to this kind of thing. Although, granted, it can be very difficult to do much in individual cases.

I wonder if they're really melting them down , or rescuing them from slavery. Maybe there's a field somewhere where gates can run free.

Hopefully thre's no utopia for wooden gates because that's what I'm going to replace it with.

Did you report yours? It's important these things get reported so patterns etc can be identified...

Guess they are in a 40 ft box en route for Xingang or Dalian.

More likely a scrap yard underneath an arch in Bermondsey Eagle.
