Crystal Palace Park - Application for Licence

Post by randomv »

Yesterday's post bought news of an application for entertainment/alcohol licence in Crystal Palace Park. I live just over the borough border, in Bromley council so guess that's why we got the letter. Just wondering what people think about this?

Personally I think it could be really good to have a *limited number* of cultural events in the park. Obviously the majority of events are going to take place in the summer and I'd be concerned if our use of the park were restricted in any way as a result of this, or if the park were ruined. The letter mentioned plays, films etc not just concerts so I don't imagine a mini Glastonbury going on every weekend!

Any thoughts?

There are notices on a couple of trees in the park, and they suggest a drinking licence till 3am.

Personally, I think some weekend events in the park would be good. But I'm not sure having such a late drinking licence as standard in an open air venue is such a good idea. It also seems to be for an unlimited number of events, again that seems optimistic for an outdoor venue.

3 am!!!!!!!. but i agree let's have a few more events. i used to be a regular attendee of the summer classical concerts. But these sadly stopped. One reason i was given was complaints about the noise.
It got so ridiculously quiet that at one of the events, an evening of Viennese music. the orchestra live was louder than the speakers.
Then again they let cold play perform!!. tho i suspect that was in the stadium rather than the bowl.

Yes Martin, it was in the stadium. I must say that finished very early (10.30 ish) so in that sense other than the influx of people I'm not sure it was that much of a nuisance. One thing that stood out from the night (I did I'm ashamed to admit, attend) apart from the heavy rain was how many people really rated the area...lots of people for whom Sydenham may well have been Sidcup and had no knowledge of where we are we are (Norf' a tha' riva' types) we're all saying how "laaaaaavvvely" it is here etc "look 'at those views Kev! It's laarrrvvvly innnnit?" was something I heard alot.
