THAI RESTAURANT COMES TO SYDENHAM
THAI RESTAURANT COMES TO SYDENHAM
Just heard on the grapevine, a new venture is co,ing to the old curtain shop which hopes to take advantage of the pocket park.
Thai Me Up Thai Me Down which specialises in authentic Thai cuisine hopes to move into the site formally occupied by the Curtain Shop by the end of the year pending the change of license.
They are planning on restoring to windows and signage to the original one as seen in some old pictures of Sydenham for an East meets west Theme. Interiors will be contemporary and based on the communial dining theme as seen in Wagamama and Busaba. I met with the guys behind it a little while ago who were excited at the prospects for Sydenham. John Dinning and Larry Driver-Barrington have a lot of experience in the catering business having worked in Asia for a number of years where they had started a few businesses and had great success. They recently moved back to the UK and live inbetween Sydenham and Crystal Palace.
I wish them well and feel that this is an exciting and vibrant addition to the high street.

That is fantastic news! I would love a Thai in Sydenham, we always use the one in crystal palace, but would much prefer to support locally. No59 on Sydenham road, is just perfect for a restaurant as it's a great size, in a good location In the middle of the high street, and with a pocket park will probably be able to double their covers in the summer.

Given the proposed name, is this a belated April Fool's joke? Otherwise I dread to think what sort of sign Lee would come up with for this restaurant.

Re: THAI RESTAURANT COMES TO SYDENHAM
Well done Lee - you had me taken in, so I'm pleased I didn't embarrass myself by commenting. I don't think the Wolf would have done as well - his stylistic flights of fancy don't have quite your sober credibilit

What a shame Lee's post was timestamped at 12:03. On Tyneside the tradition was that April Fools Day lasted only until midday. After that you would shout at an erstwhile hoaxer:
"April Fools is dead and gone.
You're the fool and I am none"

Agreed - April Fools' pranks before midday only.
I'm glad this one isn't true as coriander makes me gag, excluding me from pretty much every Thai dish imaginable.
