local history challenge
We went to a local primary school event last night, to see exhibitions of children's work. They had been looking at local history, particularly Mr Horniman, and Louise House (no link!). There was a challenge set: "what is the link between Kelvin Grove, Panmure Road and Florence Nightingale and the Crystal Palace?"
I am flummoxed, and google is not helping ) Can anyone out there?
Thnx

According to Steve Grindlay in an earlier post on this forum, Kelvin Grove was given its name in the 1850s (and before 1858).

Perhaps the neighbouring road, Panmure Road, was named at the same time?

I haven't the foggiest although I have discovered that Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow and the Crystal Palace were both designed by Paxton.

Lord Panmure and Florence Nightingale both have a strong link to the Crimean war.
No closer to the solution.......

Joseph Paxton and Lord Panmure have a Crimean link from 1854 onwards. See:

Thanks so much to everyone for all their leads (and interest). I approached the teacher in charge of the evening a couple of days ago, and asked her for enlightenment. She admitted she doesn't know either, the deputy head set the question! As soon as I see DH, I'll beg for the answer, for the sake of all Sydenham Town forumites and put yr minds at rest )
