New Southern Timetable is out

Post by Likelife »

http://www.southernrailway.com/your-journey/timetables/ Timetables 28 and 31 are for Sydenham & Forest Hill. Showing the horrid 15 minute service.
(Yes I do know it says until May on the top of the page, but the actual documents are dated from May to December 2010).

The only positive thing i can see from this is the Victoria service starting at 6.35am.

Don't fancy trying to get back from London Bridge anytime from 5-7pm, going to be chaos.

I might have to resort to preparing a standard complaint template and make sure I complain everyday that I can't get on to a train or am squeezed like a sardine into a carriage which surely should be considered a H&S risk.

On a positive note, maybe we'll all get to know each other tha little better. If anyone feels like nestling their nose in my armpit on the journey home, feel free. No doubt I'll return the favour in due course.

All I can say is the sooner 12 carriage trains come the better also If everyone complained to Southern say weekly then there may be some changes and prove to them that the evening peak will be hell.

I hope that Southern will be providing at least 6 carriages on the off-peak services to make up for the lack of a 10 min service from May 23rd.

However time will tell if passengers use the ELL to Canada Water instead of LB.

Just been looking at the new timetable.... So the morning service is still roughly every 10mins but the evening reduced to every 15mins. Do Southern expect some of the passengers traveling into London Bridge to return home using the ELL instead? Or will the evening trains be longer? Otherwise as earlier posts have said it will be cosy

The morning timetable still looks okay, but the evening one looks rather bad.

Might have to look into the new overground services from Canada Water as I have to endure the Jubilee Line anyway. Is there a timetable for overground services to Sydenham yet?

I think lots of people in the City will start using the ELL instead of shleping down to London Bridge. My husband works at Liverpool Streetand is getting the ELL from Shoreditch. Already much quicker for him even with having to change at New Cross. Once the ELL opens at our end I don't think he'll ever go through London Bridge again.

Slightly off topic - but when did an evening peak period come into effect? Recently returned to commuting after a year off on maternity leave and was surprised that my single Oyster pay as you go fare was the same in the evening as in the morning.

London Connections - the comprehesive rail/Overground/Underground map has been printed but is not available locally - I found mine at Victoria.

Having travelled on the new ELL for the first time yesterday I was amazed at how empty the carriages were at 5.45 pm and how few people got on at Canada Water. No one standing and plenty of seats.

Interesting to note that in the North-eastern regions of the Overground the train maps on the stations did not include any mention of the East London Line (or even the fact that it was under construction!)

The London connections map is available in the Sydenham ticket office it always has been, just ask for one and hearing that the ELL is empty sounds like the new timetable is defeated with proof.

The East London Line times can be seen in the National Rail timetable here: http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browse%20d ... etable.pdf on page 3045, mind you the table is a bit confusing.

AFAIK there isn't a "peak time" anymore.... the oyster fare is the same at any time of the day - as is the (more expensive) cash fare.

The London Connections leaflet was not available at Sydenham on Friday as that was my first port of call in trying to obtain one. The booking clerk got up walked around the back of the office and came out with the old map and said, when I queried this, that this was all that was available.

I shall ask again tomorrow.
