Arriving for the 6:57 train this morning the 'side gate' entrance on platform 1 was shuttered closed.
Cue a number of unhappy commuters running full-pelt round to the main entrance to catch their train, and still others turning up too late to do anything about it other than watch the train leave without them. As there's a 20 minute wait for the next train at that time, they can't have been happy.
I was in too much of a rush to catch the train to speak to the staff, but was it open later in the morning? Anyone know why it was closed?
I quite often get the 0524 and, at that time, only one member of staff is on duty. I suppose all it would take is him being ill and not coming to work and there would be no-one to open up.
There were staff around at the main entrance and in the ticket office, so it wasn't like there was no-one there to open it.
Apparently it was open a short time later so I hope it was just a one-off, rather than a new policy. I've never seen that gate shuttered at any time before now.
