basketball

Post by Shaq »

Hello Sydenham.

Hope you are well. I have recently moved to lovely SE26 and wondering what to do in my leisure time apart from watching Seinfeld, I decided to investigate the local parks.

I enjoyed Basketball as younger youth, so really what I was looking for was somewhere to throw some hoops.

Unfortunately, (my local) Mayow park's Tennis courts appear to be solely Tennis courts, and the bowling green, well, it's a bowling green.

In Crystal Palace park, home to a national sports center and the London Towers Bball squad there are facilities, but they only appear to be available to people paying for a whole court, or if they are part of the squad.

So where I ask, can I go? I don't really want to commute more than 30minutes (it would take the fun out of it and possibly turn it into exercise).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Shaq and welcome to Sydenham.

Check out Sydenham Wells Park - there is a all purpose ball court - it's close to the lower Taylors Lane entrance off Wells Park Road

Hi Shaq

You could try the Bridge Leisure centre down Kangley Bridge road, Lower Sydenham not sure what they have on offer though - I've lived by Mayow Park for over a year now and I've never got round to going..

Thanks all for your help.

I don't mind if there are kids in there having a go. A bit of practice and I'm sure they'll get the hang of it. I'm a bit rusty, so I won't be showing them up.

I did notice that there is a patio'ed section in Mayow, it's not be enough for a court, but there is room for a hoop. Do you think anyone would mind?

Cheers

Given the amount of weeds growing between the paving slabs in that patio section and the state of the nearby cricket net, I very much doubt that anyone from the council would even notice if you built a full sized basketball court. Go ahead and good luck.
