Hiya

There's a big Wing Yip Chinese supermarket at the end of Purley Way but closer to home Catford is probably your best bet as there is a big Chinese population there - don't know anywhere in particular though.

there's a small chinese supermarket on Catford Road, "FLK Chinese Groceries" (the No 75 bus stops outside it) - it's next to the Uniplan agency (opp the sports ground). I haven't been in there yet. Keep meaning to. I think it's closed on Sundays.

Try See Wu's in Charlton (I might have spelt the name wrong), it's great if you don't mind a bit of a drive.

the big ones outside chinatown and not at the opposite end of town are seewoo in greenwich and wing yip in waddon. use google to find them, they are large wholesale type of outlets, the former being distinctly better and cheaper than the latter. however seewoo is not convenient to reach without a car (bus 177 from new cross gate), but it may be the best chinese supermarket in town, provided you know your way round chinese food. the only more or less local store is the one in catford mentioned above, it is cornershop-sized and does not sell groceries, only more durable foodstuff like noodles and frozen dumplings etc. the woman who runs the store is very helpful with info on how to cook the stuff.

Good luck with the Oriental shopping.

Take care, though, not to make the mistake I did some years ago...

In a store in Chinatown I bought what I thought was a real bargain bag of frozen prawns. When I got home my wife asked what I had.
I felt quite smug with my 'great buy'...Until she pointed out that I had a bag of frozen chicken claws.

I did a real 'Victor Meldrew'!
