New homes...Thames Gateway. Definitely liable to future flooding when one considers the impact of global warming. [Ditto N. power sites]
Perhaps perceptions need to be nudged in the direction of 'reality' in many areas?

Where do you get the figures that our food imports only 20% more than exports.
I doubt it has been near that for 200 years except briefly in periods of war.
If there is a points system it does not seem to be working. I know many nurses come in and they are mostly really great but with so many Britons not working why cannot they be trained?
I think the main problem is the illegals which HMG does not deal with with. Should be sent back same day. If that policy was well known overseas perhaps so many would not come but they know that nothing will happen and eventually they will be allowed to stay.

You have illegal immigrants if it's difficult to stay legally. It's no different here, or Germany, or the USA, or France.Eagle wrote:Lee

They do 'send them back'. I have friends who turned out to have 'outstayed their welcome' and were turned back at the airport (not allowed to go back to where they were living and pack, just put on the next plane back 'home'., I know of people who were evicted at 4.00am form their house and 'sent packing'.
I had a flatmate who was an interpreter with the Home office and have a lot of latin friends here, there and everywhere which hopefully explains the above as it's first hand knowledge.
The food figures come from the national office of statistics and defra. One thing the current UK government did was stick everything online.
We are the 10th largest dairy farming nation on the planet.
We have a lot of international food brands which are exported all over the planet.
We import £14,469,977,000 worth of food and drink.
We export £8,420,469,000 worth of food and drink.
That gap is actually better than it was 20 years ago.
