I had to say that it looks great now that they have put the planters around the wall outside.

It makes a huge difference and really softens the frontage.

The candles in the window look great, and the slightly softer lighting does too. It looks really good at night.

We haven't been in for a while, not for any other reason than trying to save money and cook at home etc. Hope it is still doing well.

The planters do make such a difference, they look great! Really softens the whole area up. Hope they've got them screwed on though!

Totally agree belle. I love the greenery - it makes such a difference and im sure they absorb/ block a bit of the noise from the road too!

I love this place.... great food, great service, great wine. It's so easy to pop in there on the way home from the train station when you can't be bothered to cook :)

And they're hosting one of the events for the Arts Festival - I just bought my tickets! http://www.sydenhamartsfestival.com/1004.html

Agree whole heartedly with girl canuck: "I love this place.... great food, great service, great wine. It's so easy to pop in there on the way home from the train station when you can't be bothered to cook "

Agree with all the above posts . The planters outside improve the outside area no end- will be lovely now to sit outside with a coffee or wine and people watch these promised warm(er) evenings. Trattoria is a real Sydders gem.

Well done TR. The planters look great :D At last businesses are starting to invest in their appearance which will hopefully spur others on when they see the custom something like this attracts....

The art work on the walls inside has also added a bit more character.

We went to Trattoria Raphael last night for my girlfriends birthday, 9 of us. It was amazing. The food was delicious, the wine excellent and the hospitality great - Rafaele treats you like one of the family! He let us take a cake and lit the candles and bought it through as a suprise, lovely. I haven't eaten there since just after it opened and since then the food has definetly got better with time. The mussels were delicious, pizza's ace and my friend had the meatballs and they looked and apparently tasted great. One of our buddies had pasta stuffed with pear and riccotta (I think) an amazing dish. He has had similar at Jamie Oliver's restaurant and said that Rafaele's was just at good. I will not be waiting nearly a year to go back!!!

One thing though, the limoncello - seemed like a good idea at the time, now, I feel rubbish! Delicious never the less.

If you haven't been, go!

I totally agree with you G-Man. I can’t say enough good things about the place. The owner really understands service and costumer relations. He always makes us welcome and remembered us from our first time there. We go quite regularly and feel that it is the best place on the highstreet – a close second being Gurkas. I’d urge anyone who’s not checked it out yet to give it a go. I think he’s recently started daily specials that are a great complement the regular menu.
To me, this is a great example of a local small business that deserves the support of the community!

Ditto. We love Trattoria. Great food and great people. Possible the best place to have pizzas this side of Italy....actually, scrub that, they are better than most Pizzas there too.

And soon they will have a great new website. :-)

They make their own bread, pizzas bases etc. If we won the lottery and moved to Hampstead we'd still go there.

Finally made it to Trattoria Rafaele after reading all of your reviews and loved the place. Friendly atmosphere and welcomong staff (both Rafaele and his dad were working as it was a Friday night) and fantastic food with excellent sized portions (I struggled to finish my pizza but managed it in the end!).
Will definitely be back soon.

Thank you so much for all your kind comments!

Our fab new website is now up and running, so please do check us out. Log on to www.trattoriaraffaele.com and you can download both our eat in and take away menus, read a little more about us and what makes us tick, and visit some great links (hmm, we might even mention the forum somewhere...).

A great BIG thank you goes out to Ariana Palacio Newham and Lee Newham for all their hard work getting this together for us. If you are looking for someone to design a website, these are the people to go to!

Just got back from another lovely meal at the Trattoria. The mussel starter was fresh and tasted great, the pizza as always was top notch, the ravioli delicious (you can't beat proper, fresh pasta) and the homemade tiramisu was rich and creamy. All rounded off with a calypso coffee, all I need now is a pillow!

I like the web site - few things that are missing:

1) some pictures
2) an email address
3) a map

other than that, nice design.

Oh, the link top left on your home page (your logo) is broken.

Another minor point - the homepage is called "Index", when it should really (for bookmarking purposes) be called "Trattoria Rafaele".

Trattoria Raffaele - you have a cool website. It's inspired me to visit your restaurant - can't wait for those fresh pizzas .. like with most good businesses i'm sure word of mouth will help to create more and more customers. the outside looks really nice too. will go there this week. slowly but surely sydenham high street improves. Well done you guys. Mines the rocket and parma ham pizza !!

Thanks Sydenhamboy. Ariana has fixed some of the issues with the site. She did a good job on this (and worked bloody hard on it).

Just shows what a bit of design can do. See you there soon!
