who runs this site?
Does anyone know who runs this site, and isn't it about time they updated the directory? Apollo Video and Internet caff was here only fleetingly and has been gone at least two years.
Errr ... I manage this site for and on behalf of the community. I don't advertise my name here but you can easily find out who I am from the 'about' page. Tracking through STF you might find my involvement in various Sydenham projects and occasional STF Socials where folks can meet up for a drink or three.
The problem I have in setting up this site and others for Sydenham is that is easier to do than finding time to do the necessary updating. I have asked many times for help but the response has been insufficient. So it comes back to the community, if you want a bright on the button community website then it is not going to drop from the sky - it will be as good as the amount of time members of the community will set aside to contribute.
The Forum works because you can say what you like when you want. Creating and maintaining business databases and stuff like that is less attractive - but as you point out very necessary. So lets try again. Anybody interested in having a meet to organise Sydenham Town's future? Say the beginning of September when people are back from holiday?

No IT or website skills required.
There is much to be done. The info directories run off simple spreadsheets so access to MS Office or OpenOffice (free) and possibly a digital camera is about as complex as it gets. If that's too demanding then checking telephone numbers and stuff like that is not glamorous - but is the biggest cause of complaints received.
The only requirement is a little time and love of Sydenham.

i'm probably one of the guilty that have offered help in the past.
In terms of the future direction of sydenham.org.uk maybe the answer is to strip it back to just a forum? I can appreciate that it is a near impossible task to keep all the other parts of the site up to date, news, directories etc. And if they're out of date then they don't serve the purpose they were implemented for.
Tricky one.
I run the web site for Sydenham Tennis Club:
http://www.sltcc.co.uk/
It's built using Wordpress so I can assign different pages of the site for other members to keep up-to-date. Works well. But keeping sydenham.org up-to-date is a much bigger task!
cheers

In years past, I was a professional web developer. Well, I say professional - I did work for the NHS, who aren't known for the professionalism with which they handle IT projects. My foremost claim to credibility being that I designed and implemented the data gathering and reporting system used for notifiable diseases. Yes, when you see those hysterical "MRSA deaths at all-time high" headlines, I did that! Alas, I didn't like it as a full time job and gave it up, but I still like to dabble from time to time. I'm also quite handy with a camera. I'm happy to help maintain this site in any way I can.
Personally, I think a moderated wiki is the best way of putting a business directory or a list of places of interest online. That way, anyone can edit it or update photos (even the businesses themselves), but it can be kept to basic facts rather than opinions.
Admin, please ping me if you want to discuss.

Apollo is gone
Whoever you are, you are still listing an internet caff that has not existed for the past two years.
