Postie asked me where this was today, at the time he was standing at 136 which is the chemist next door .
I told him it was the empty shop with the brown paper on the windows, right next to where we were standing.
Chemist is 136 and 140 is clearly marked, so by a process of simple elimination............! anyway , he then said "But theres no letterbox !" , I looked and sure enough to my horror he was correct with his Poirot like observation, this was obviously not somebody to be messed with on matters of interlect.
After applying some thought and a certain amount of "Bluesky" thinking I pointed out that there is a gap underneath the door and you could probably get the letters under it, why not give it a try !
Dont know why but he then showed me the mail and it was adressed to JC Chicken !
I had heard it was going to be a restaurant of sorts, but by the sound of it its going to be another salmonella special !
This also means people hanging around late at night and more noise & litter
Anyway my story has a happy ending, postie tried sliding the letters into gap twixt door and floor, and sure enough one by one they silently disappeared from view.
He thanked me and as he happily set off on his next mission on behalf of Her Majesty he said "I did see the gap but it didnt look big enough" !

I have that problem all the time.Great Bustard wrote:"I did see the gap but it didnt look big enough" !
It amazes me how these dodgy chicken shops and such stay in business. The rents must be dirt cheap.
Seems an odd shop to have a chicken place. It's frontage is protected and they wont be allowed to install a backlit illuminated sign which all these chicken places seem to have.
I'm sure Steve Grindlay can confirm this (or let me know if I'm wrong).
This little parade of shops could be so nice. I wish they were still antique shops, I miss going to places like these and having a browse. These days the best place is the bath House.
Brilliant post by the way, it made me smile.
Best keep an eye on this place, just in case someone comes in and ruins it.

Saw two guys outside this shop on Sunday morning, fixing sign up.Asked them what it was going to be they said something along the lines of KFC,but that it would have a coffee bar in the basement. Then I thought seeing the referance to "Jesus Christ Chicken, I had an envelope through my door and inside was a flyer inviting me to a new church, which would be opening opposite Tesco in Kirkdale. The mind boggles could it all be under one roof!!

Apologies for my bluntness but you sound awfully patronising and snobbish.Great Bustard wrote:... he then said "But theres no letterbox !" , I looked and sure enough to my horror he was correct with his Poirot like observation, this was obviously not somebody to be messed with on matters of interlect.
p.s it's "intellect" ( and yes, I can see the irony ).

I doubt that would happen. The only REAL difference (aesthetically) to the chemist next door is the lit up sign. Mr Patel has a dropped ceiling and a similar shop front. Fortunately, he doesn't have awful yellowy-lime coloured walls!danstevens wrote:agree it looks shocking. Can we not mobilise and get this place shut down? More litter, more kids eating more crap. Depressing.
I hate these chicken shops and never use them but they, along with mobile phone shops and £ shops seem to thrive and reproduce.
It's sad to see this stretch of Woodman shops (locals always referred to the whole area as the Woodman) become so tatty when it could look so nice. I suppose the empty cola cans and chicken boxes will add to the general ambience
