Hi all, I need to fix some guttering on my roof, which is quite high up.... like 3 storeys. Does anyone know whether this will necessarily require scaffolding, or whether roofers/gutterers have some other safe way of doing their work in high places?? And can anyone recommend someone to do this sort of job - would be v. helpful!
many thanks
Claire
Roofing and guttering
There is a European Directive which, I believe, is enshrined in our own law which requires any task to have a risk assessment. If the job is unlikely to be completed within 30 minutes it cannot be performed on a ladder.
Scaffolding is not phenomenally expensive. However it is well worth considering whether or not other jobs can be carried out at the same time.
Frankly I would not permit even painters to attend to my outside walls without the benefit of scaffolding. I believe that any major work at height requires the owner of the property to ensure the safety of those who carry out that work. Cutting corners, where safety is concerned, is a definite no.
